I guess I'm ok with this if we still draft a possible qb1 like Richardson for the future, but if we don't, then this just smells like 2-3 more years of mediocrity and three and outs, and the rest of the NFC West cheering. Hard to get excited about it, but hopefully it will work out and I'm pleasantly surprised. Just have to trust Pete and John and hope for the best I guess. Sigh.

I was thinking that they might draft Qb1 and let Geno and Adams pay be gone.

But do we really think Pete would tank his career for another 2 years.

i think they covet AR15. could be wrong, just a hunch. and realistically AR15 is in no way ready to start. he would be given the mahomes/rodgers treatment. if they draft AR15, they can always trade geno in a year or two (if he still has value)

The team didn't go three and out that often.

I haven't seen any actual contract terms yet, but they must be released somewhere in order for people to have already formed an opinion about the deal. If you do have a strong opinion maybe you could link the details for the rest of us.

It's $52 million in a calendar year rather than season

If that's the case, it only opens it up to an even possibly lower cap. My cap numbers are just examples of what can be done. My only point is that $52 million in cash doesn't mean we are taking a huge cap hit here. That's why signing a multi-year deal is so much better than franchising a guy. Some people look at a $31 million franchise as better than $35 million average, but if you look at strictly 2023 numbers, the three year deal could be up to half the franchise tag cap hit.

Yeah, I think this has a lot to do with it. Pete probably only has a few years left, and sees Geno as a safe insurance policy.

Seahawks and Pro-Bowl QB Geno Smith reached agreement on a three-year, $105 million contract, including $52 million in the first year, as
@Schultz_Report
reported.

He can stop the turnovers. and score some gdam points.
That is true but the point is that Geno wasn't the reason we lost those games. However he was the reason we were actually competitive for the one half of those 3 games that we were.

Or 2nd option would be trade the 2023 5th and 20th for multiple 2nd round and 2024 1st round picks and keep up the draft stock.

I’ll take it.

The contract is really 2 years like how I thought it would be.

This lines up perfectly for Seattle to draft a QB early this year and sit him behind Smith for two years.

Hopefully, Seattle, can find some great pass rushers in later rounds this year.

Geno and then Anthony Richardson (if Richardson becomes a star) would be a great QB transition!

i see that rob staton's minions have come to shitpost and declare defeat. they want us all demoralized like them.

big surprise!

imagine being mad that we just re-signed the comeback player of the year to a market-value contract
Staton has consistently called for re-signing at a reasonable amount and drafting for the future. Likens it to KC with PM & another QB named Smith.

He’s hoping the contract is reasonable for a couple years and the gross number is inflated by NLTBE and bloated 3rd year.

I know but we were talking about 49ers sweeping Seattle.

I think Geno will struggle against good D like the 49ers and if 49ers add Wagz, and improve their secondary then yeah it's 2-0 SF.

Great points, thanks. You're right, this isn't a zero sum game, and all the options are still on the table. I feel better now.

Why would you pay $100M for a QB just to immediately waste a top 5 draft pick on another QB? They are going to build for Geno. QBs are drafted to start nowadays, not sit on the bench hoping they're Aaron Rodgers.
You're making incredible assumptions about the contract. They are N E V E R what they seem to be when first reported.

This is going to be a two-year, $50ish million dollar deal.

This is exactly the situation Richardson needs. A year or two to develop.

If you think this means the Hawks won't consider drafting a QB, I'd suggest you re-strain the ol' tea leaves.

I'm sure the guarantees and cap number will be out shortly but i'm also guessing it's frontloaded. If the seahawks need cap casualties I think they will start with Jamal Adams.
