Absolutely not, there was zero guarantee the team would have scored from the 1, (see XLIX). You score whenever you can

This type of after the fact thought is fanciful navel gazing.

Laughable and ridiculous. I doubt if there was any Hawks fan not happy about the touchdown at that point.

Why would he kneel? So Bevell could call an inside slant which is then picked off? Or so Walsh could miss another gimme FG?

Had Baldwin kneeled, we would have lost because our OC is incapable of calling a play inside the 3 that leads to a TD. And our kicker is incapable of hitting gimme shots. So no. The entire concept is stupid.

On the flip side, I think it's more of an guarantee that we don't score. See the nine or ten plays it took us to not score from the one a couple weeks ago.

No, the fine play we designed to get Doug wide open should have been enough to win that game.

I understand everyone who says "you have to score there" as it is what has always been done and of course the ramifications of losing if you take a knee there are embarassing.

However.......

to all those who are screaming "BUT WE MAY HAVE LOST!!!!!!!" had we done it that way.....well guess what...we LOST doing it the conventional way, didnt we?

Personally, who cares about convention if it makes statistical sense to increase the probability of victory.

Could it go wrong? Sure. But as happy as I was that we Doug scored there, in the back of my mind and everyone else's Im sure we all looked at the clock and said ooohhhh wish he hadnt scored so fast ....

And now we know why.

Its at least worth thinking about, even if conventional wisdom says nobody may ever be brave enough to actually try it.

I heard next week they will be doing a report on "Should Lynch should have gotten on the bus after they cut Pussy Harvin?".

Its not even brave, its going against instinct in a major way to the point you cant find more than a few instances across decades where a player did just that.

I read a article on ESPN.com and idk where it went but I'll sum it up.

"Baldwin could of kneeled at the 1 and gave redskins no time left for a Blair Walsh game winning fg. (Redskins would of had around 20seconds) That would of gave the hawks a 98% win probability. Now Walsh was 0-3 and Baldwin would of been screamed at but it'd of been the right play."

Thoughts? I thought this just briefly before Baldwin scampered in. However you should always take sure points.

Thoughts?

I understand the idea of not leaving time for the Redskins to come back. But , like you said it would have left about 20 seconds, with a 2pt. difference, if a field goal was kicked.
The skins would only need a fg to win the game. It only took them, what 34sec to score a td, so 20 sec. for a fg was doable.
It's easy to look back and second guess. I say score the td (guaranteed pts), and leave it up to your defense to close out the game.

In the Superbowl I was happy when we didn't score. It was at such a spot that the 7 points felt guaranteed and we would drain the clock and score. It was game over, I was uncorking the champagne

Since that game I have changed my opinion on these matters. While I didn't like how quickly we scored (the pass was open you throw it) I am never again thinking "don't score"
