I agree with most of what you are saying. De Gea came to United (like Ronaldo) - from the Iberian peninsula - as a good potential prospect and was developed into the player that he is today by United.

The biggest draw for him to go to Real (like Ronaldo) is the fact that they are Spanish Club. Boyhood dreams come true potential local hero status and all that. If he wants to go then I say let him - but it will cost a lot. I would take Bale any day of the week for him.

United will get it right. Life without SAF is more difficult than most expected. Writing the future off half way into the first season with a new manager is just wishful thinking.

To be fair....none of England's teams are on par with the two Spanish giants and Bayern. Those teams will get what they want. Probably De Gea. Maybe Sterling, Kane, Hazard (my personal speculation). If I'm disparaging anything it's the quality of Premier teams, Chelsea included.

On United's resurgence... their debt is now near 400 million. That will be an issue trying to rebuild their team (again) this summer. Interesting times ahead.

That's not so bad - The Glazers took it 572 million into debt by the simple act of buying it on the never never.

Modern English Football (thank you Roman/Chelski) is now a war of attrition which is won by the team with the deepest pockets and/or biggest benefactor. The fans no longer care where the money comes from. Teams like City and Chelsea, up until the buyouts by gazillionaires were in the same level as Burnley / Wolves / Coventry etc. Not that there is anything wrong with that. But maybe every team should get a sugar daddy!

I love my football - But maybe I am just getting too cynical. It's hard to look at a team of mercenaries the same way as you look at a team that was 'grafted' together by academy players and shrewd transfer deals. SAF used to be a master at that and for years United were able to make it work. Even the Academy kids nowadays are flown in from all over Europe under the "2 Hour" rule

My ideal is what Brian Clough was able to do at Forest, Shankly at Liverpool, Ferguson at United. I think those days are gone forever.

Suarez signed one before he left too. Reus just signed one at Dortmund. Honestly the contract is what raised my suspicions. He doesn't get along well with Jose, and I think his game is better suited in Germany.

Abramovich was a Russian oil Oligarch who stole approximately $11 Billion from the Russian people. He had a history of bribery and murder as he rose to be the single most powerful Oligarch. His contemporaries were one by one eliminated (jailed) by Putin when he came into power. Fearing this, Abramovich moved to London and set about making himself a public figure as he knew that this would make it more difficult to bring him down. What better way to do that than to buy the most "fashionable" club in London. So losing almost $1 billion to get Chelsea’s first title in 50 years was well worth it to Abramovich . He becomes a famous Football owner, friends with Putin, and his past is forgotten.

Now that he has achieved what he set out to do, he is being a little less free flowing with the cash. FFP may have something to do with but my sense is that Abramovich has gotten what he needed from Chelsea and it is no longer critical to him.

Maybe when Putin is replaced as Russian leader you may hear a lot about Chelsea again as Abramovich will not have the same relationship with the new leader as the one he ended up having with Putin.
