Si and Peaches - I don't want to go on a LVG A4 "long Ball" style rant, but.......

Top Ten "Biggest" teams in all sports 2015
1 Real Madrid ($3.44 billion)
2 F.C. Barcelona (3.2 billion)
3 Manchester United ($2.81 billion)
4 New York Yankees ($2.5 billion)
5 Dallas Cowboys ($2.3 billion)
6 Los Angeles Dodgers ($2 billion)
7 Bayern Munich ($1.85 billion)
8 New England Patriots ($1.8 billion)
9 Washington Redskins ($1.7 billion)
10 New York Giants ($1.55 billion)

659 Million Supporters Worldwide.

Not to mention that United have as many league titles in the last ten years as Chelsea, City, Arsenil and Liverpool (and everybody else in the Prem) combined.

Whare do you get your crazy ideas? Not big? You are so happy that United are playing s**t football right now that you think your dream about the mighty falling is coming true. You think United are going the same way as Leeds and Liverpool. Maybe it makes you feel better about supporting a team that hasn't lived up to its reputation for over 20 years.

Not Big? GTFO!

"Biggest" and "Most Valuable" are different. And anyways, Man U is shit. If it wasn't for Chevy trying to expand their business in Europe (good luck with that btw) and their overpriced reach, I would be curious to see where Wank U falls on the MV list.

Whats made up? - Those are all facts.Just trying to understand why Si doesn't think United are a so called big club?

On a different note, I'm not a Doctor but..... you should probably take something for your Tourettes Syndrome.

Si's point was a good one, even If biggest wasn't the right word. De Gea is a superstar, he deserves to be playing for a club that can compete at the very highest level, just like United used to and why he said he would have fit in better previously. Now on the pitch they are seriously behind a fair few clubs and are struggling massively in comparison to teams of old.

I agree with most of what you are saying. De Gea came to United (like Ronaldo) - from the Iberian peninsula - as a good potential prospect and was developed into the player that he is today by United.

The biggest draw for him to go to Real (like Ronaldo) is the fact that they are Spanish Club. Boyhood dreams come true potential local hero status and all that. If he wants to go then I say let him - but it will cost a lot. I would take Bale any day of the week for him.

United will get it right. Life without SAF is more difficult than most expected. Writing the future off half way into the first season with a new manager is just wishful thinking.

Don't be nasty Seabhac. We are past that. Sorry to draw this out. Big wasn't the ideal word I suppose. United isn't good enough at the moment. And you are right Seabhac, De Gea being Spanish will play a big role. The idea that Bale comes the other way is silly. Real don't need to move anyone, and Bale will be that teams leader in two years.

To be fair....none of England's teams are on par with the two Spanish giants and Bayern. Those teams will get what they want. Probably De Gea. Maybe Sterling, Kane, Hazard (my personal speculation). If I'm disparaging anything it's the quality of Premier teams, Chelsea included.

On United's resurgence... their debt is now near 400 million. That will be an issue trying to rebuild their team (again) this summer. Interesting times ahead.

That's not so bad - The Glazers took it 572 million into debt by the simple act of buying it on the never never.

Modern English Football (thank you Roman/Chelski) is now a war of attrition which is won by the team with the deepest pockets and/or biggest benefactor. The fans no longer care where the money comes from. Teams like City and Chelsea, up until the buyouts by gazillionaires were in the same level as Burnley / Wolves / Coventry etc. Not that there is anything wrong with that. But maybe every team should get a sugar daddy!

I love my football - But maybe I am just getting too cynical. It's hard to look at a team of mercenaries the same way as you look at a team that was 'grafted' together by academy players and shrewd transfer deals. SAF used to be a master at that and for years United were able to make it work. Even the Academy kids nowadays are flown in from all over Europe under the "2 Hour" rule

My ideal is what Brian Clough was able to do at Forest, Shankly at Liverpool, Ferguson at United. I think those days are gone forever.

Yeah - I'm against modern football.

Hazard just signed a new contract to stay at Chelsea through 2020.

Suarez signed one before he left too. Reus just signed one at Dortmund. Honestly the contract is what raised my suspicions. He doesn't get along well with Jose, and I think his game is better suited in Germany.

Just a hunch.

I don't disagree on any of it. We are all fighting an uphill battle against Chelsea, City, Real and Barca (Bayern, actually, are funded quite differently).

FFP "may" help. It may curb then stashing of players on the bench. I mean atleast Chelsea had to sell to get Cuadrado. Who knows.

Abramovich was a Russian oil Oligarch who stole approximately $11 Billion from the Russian people. He had a history of bribery and murder as he rose to be the single most powerful Oligarch. His contemporaries were one by one eliminated (jailed) by Putin when he came into power. Fearing this, Abramovich moved to London and set about making himself a public figure as he knew that this would make it more difficult to bring him down. What better way to do that than to buy the most "fashionable" club in London. So losing almost $1 billion to get Chelsea’s first title in 50 years was well worth it to Abramovich . He becomes a famous Football owner, friends with Putin, and his past is forgotten.

Now that he has achieved what he set out to do, he is being a little less free flowing with the cash. FFP may have something to do with but my sense is that Abramovich has gotten what he needed from Chelsea and it is no longer critical to him.

Maybe when Putin is replaced as Russian leader you may hear a lot about Chelsea again as Abramovich will not have the same relationship with the new leader as the one he ended up having with Putin.

Well, not to quibble, but Chelsea have brought in Costa, Matic, Fabregas, Cuadrado, Willian, etc. They have just had to sell to get. Its almost as if they are playing FIFA Manager mode. Quite ridiculous.

And from what Ive heard about the Chelsea owner (Helicopter crashes and all) you may want to delete that post :)

Get in there Palace! Ahh - Not to be I suppose. The prospect of a potential United / Liverpool Semi Final or Final is alive for now. I would relish it...

Man, i'll tell you what, even if United win this match here, they look a poor side. The kind of luck they've been riding to get results the last month or two is bound to run out sooner or later. All that money spent, too.

Wrong manager? Went for stability and got bland and stubborn. Was Hodgson not available?

I'm forwarding all of this stuff to Mr. Abramovich's email.

We are gonna destroy The Frenchies today!
