Guess this solves the question of how we get a new CB on the roster. Now we can sign both Tru and Winfield and cut one once Thurmond is back......

-Browner wasn't going to play the rest of the regular season anyway, but despite that he would have burdened our roster in the meantime by taking up a roster spot. By going on the suspension list, he frees up a roster spot we wouldn't have had otherwise. For the regular season at least, this suspension is actually quite convenient for Seattle, because the team was looking at some tough roster choices to find a guy for Thurmond this week. The timing of this news couldn't be any better for Seattle.
-Sure, we lose him in the postseason, but Thurmond and Maxwell are comparable contributors at this point, so I'm not too worried about the dropoff. Seattle was 4-0 without Browner last season.
-Until now, I figured there was zero chance Browner would play for Seattle in 2014. This suspension absolutely destroys his market value, and whichever team that signs him will be doing it on a bargain deal. Guess who's the hardest working bargain hunter in the NFL? John Schneider. Remember how Leroy Hill kept destroying his market value because of weed? That kept him a career Seahawk, ironically enough. We might see the same situation with Browner. The only teams that are going to go after him are bargain hunters with the kind of depth to make his November arrival palatable. How many other teams can say that besides Seattle? And you know that if the money is close, he's obviously be staying.

Aldon Smith can go booze all night, get behind the wheel put people's life in danger multiple times... play a game 48 hours later like nothing happened, then get a casual month and a half off at some rehab facility. Meanwhile Browner takes a stimulant/depressant - like alcohol - that is legal in the state and gets popped for a year?
Maybe I sound like an idiot, who's to say. Anyways back to supporting the best team in the NFL on the quest.
You forgot the part about guns being fired at his house
Addiction is an illness. He didn't harm anyone. He didn't harm the Hawks.
Enough with these bush-league overreactions we seem to be so good at.
He harmed his team mates, the Hawks, the fans, PED's and weed is not an illness, it is a choice.

Originally reported as a suspension due to PED's which turned out to be false. It's actually a suspension for violating the NFL substance abuse policy.ensett":2ibosnwa said:how did this go from an 8 game suspension, to everything saying it was a false report including browner, to a one year suspension?

Yes I've broken plenty of rules in my lifetime, y'all know what I'm getting at.
Word is that Seattle is ready to just move on from him completely, as they should. I love what Browner brings as a player and have grown fond of his attitude/swagger. But, he got popped for PED's last year hurting the team by missing 4 games (even though we did not lose, that is all hindsight). Then, being already in stage 2 of the NFL's drug program (already tested positive twice before this...I believe while he was in Denver his rookie year) knowing that if he gets caught he gets a year....he frickin chooses to smoke anyways. Getting caught once is ok, whatever. Testing positive again for it is pretty freaking dumb. Doing it again....moronic and selfish. Too many lapses in judgement that cost the team, all while knowing the consequences. His time is done here.kearly":2qk6wzi5 said:Am I the only one who's actually kind of happy about all this?

This is true. At least it was the most expendable member.Seahwkgal":1t1rrzcx said:Well, if we were going to lose one of the LOB, it was the one that had the least talent.(can you imagine losing one of the other 3?) I am honestly more bummed about Thurmond than Browner. At least he will be back.

Sure there are others. Every single team has them. Retired players have guestimted that half the league smokes weeds. It's not a matter of guys on the team smoking. It's a matter of guys on the team being stupid and failing the drug tests. Clearly other players know when not to smoke or how to mask their samples so as to pass. Otherwise, you'd be hearing about guys being suspended all of the time.
I'm not mad at these guys for doing something that a large % of their co-workers also do.I'm mad at them for being stupid and not knowing what they're doing in regards to the tests. Be it not smoking during the season or knowing how to rig the test (it's not hard. I know guys I work with who can pass a test pretty easy). Whatever the deal is, these guys are being stupid and messing up. It's ridiculous.
And you can save me the "I'd lose my job if I failed a drug test" crap that people were spewing the other day in the Thurmond thread. You work a normal job. These guys don't. They work in a field where guys are able to get away with it all of the dang time. They aren't playing by the same set of rules as we are. So stop with comparing them to yourself. It's stupid. Just stop. These guys live pampered lives. They know it. And that's why guys like Thurmond and Browner push it to the level they do. Because most other guys get away with it. Don't hate the players. Hate the game.
