Guess this solves the question of how we get a new CB on the roster. Now we can sign both Tru and Winfield and cut one once Thurmond is back......

Am I the only one who's actually kind of happy about all this?

-Browner wasn't going to play the rest of the regular season anyway, but despite that he would have burdened our roster in the meantime by taking up a roster spot. By going on the suspension list, he frees up a roster spot we wouldn't have had otherwise. For the regular season at least, this suspension is actually quite convenient for Seattle, because the team was looking at some tough roster choices to find a guy for Thurmond this week. The timing of this news couldn't be any better for Seattle.

-Sure, we lose him in the postseason, but Thurmond and Maxwell are comparable contributors at this point, so I'm not too worried about the dropoff. Seattle was 4-0 without Browner last season.

-Until now, I figured there was zero chance Browner would play for Seattle in 2014. This suspension absolutely destroys his market value, and whichever team that signs him will be doing it on a bargain deal. Guess who's the hardest working bargain hunter in the NFL? John Schneider. Remember how Leroy Hill kept destroying his market value because of weed? That kept him a career Seahawk, ironically enough. We might see the same situation with Browner. The only teams that are going to go after him are bargain hunters with the kind of depth to make his November arrival palatable. How many other teams can say that besides Seattle? And you know that if the money is close, he's obviously be staying.

He is out for the year........assume you mean we get a good deal in 2015......

how did this go from an 8 game suspension, to everything saying it was a false report including browner, to a one year suspension?

Alright, maybe i'm runnin on fumes at the moment, but serisouly shouldn't the NFL re-evaluate this whole "substance abuse" rules and punishments? I hate being this guy and comparing these but,

Aldon Smith can go booze all night, get behind the wheel put people's life in danger multiple times... play a game 48 hours later like nothing happened, then get a casual month and a half off at some rehab facility. Meanwhile Browner takes a stimulant/depressant - like alcohol - that is legal in the state and gets popped for a year?

Maybe I sound like an idiot, who's to say. Anyways back to supporting the best team in the NFL on the quest.

You forgot the part about guns being fired at his house

Addiction is an illness. He didn't harm anyone. He didn't harm the Hawks.

Enough with these bush-league overreactions we seem to be so good at.

He harmed his team mates, the Hawks, the fans, PED's and weed is not an illness, it is a choice.

It's not that simple, unfortunately.

I don't think he harmed anyone other than himself. It seemed really unlikely he was going to see the field again this year with his groin injury. He's been outplayed this year by WT3 anyway. The team is fine. The fans are fine. All is well.

Get us Sandcastle!

Looks like we'll be drafting CB this year. All good. Can't think of many positions I trust this FO with more than secondary. Let's hope more of our fine tuned vets, that we have no plans of re-signing, go the same route as Browner. Hell, let's spike their Gatorade at the half of every SB. Keep 'em away from the enemy.

Originally reported as a suspension due to PED's which turned out to be false. It's actually a suspension for violating the NFL substance abuse policy.

(I didn't know there was a difference until this thread... :p )

No longer will Brandon Browner get to be chill and mellowed out when facing opposing offenses?

Well, if we were going to lose one of the LOB, it was the one that had the least talent.(can you imagine losing one of the other 3?) I am honestly more bummed about Thurmond than Browner. At least he will be back.

Yes I've broken plenty of rules in my lifetime, y'all know what I'm getting at.
Yeah worries me too this is a close close group .

Sure there are others. Every single team has them. Retired players have guestimted that half the league smokes weeds. It's not a matter of guys on the team smoking. It's a matter of guys on the team being stupid and failing the drug tests. Clearly other players know when not to smoke or how to mask their samples so as to pass. Otherwise, you'd be hearing about guys being suspended all of the time.

I'm not mad at these guys for doing something that a large % of their co-workers also do.I'm mad at them for being stupid and not knowing what they're doing in regards to the tests. Be it not smoking during the season or knowing how to rig the test (it's not hard. I know guys I work with who can pass a test pretty easy). Whatever the deal is, these guys are being stupid and messing up. It's ridiculous.

And you can save me the "I'd lose my job if I failed a drug test" crap that people were spewing the other day in the Thurmond thread. You work a normal job. These guys don't. They work in a field where guys are able to get away with it all of the dang time. They aren't playing by the same set of rules as we are. So stop with comparing them to yourself. It's stupid. Just stop. These guys live pampered lives. They know it. And that's why guys like Thurmond and Browner push it to the level they do. Because most other guys get away with it. Don't hate the players. Hate the game.

Word is that Seattle is ready to just move on from him completely, as they should. I love what Browner brings as a player and have grown fond of his attitude/swagger. But, he got popped for PED's last year hurting the team by missing 4 games (even though we did not lose, that is all hindsight). Then, being already in stage 2 of the NFL's drug program (already tested positive twice before this...I believe while he was in Denver his rookie year) knowing that if he gets caught he gets a year....he frickin chooses to smoke anyways. Getting caught once is ok, whatever. Testing positive again for it is pretty freaking dumb. Doing it again....moronic and selfish. Too many lapses in judgement that cost the team, all while knowing the consequences. His time is done here.

By the way, I am by no means judging him for smoking weed in general...have no problem with people who do. But in this context, as a repeat offender and already in the NFL's stage 2 drug program it is just really stupid. Sacrifice a few years of puffin for the team and your career.

This is true. At least it was the most expendable member.

I feel horrible for Browner, he's worked his ass off to come back from the obscurity of the CFL and now that he has finally made it and he's going to get paid "BOOM" he blows it. He'll get picked after 11 games by some team with a depleted secondary for the league minimum. After that it will be one year at a time most likely at the minimum, who would trust him with a long term contract? The guy has 2 kids you can bet he's really feeling it.

As far as how his absence effects the team, I really do not notice any difference between Browner and Maxwell. I did not think the team missed Browner that much when he was injured and he was benched a game for poor play. Get ready fast Tharold Simon you are almost the next man up.

I have gotten drugtested twice in five years so really low chance of getting caught. He was in the program so getting tested more than once every year.......so how is this not his fault and why shouldn't people compare themselves to him? He worked his way to where he was. He went to the CFL. He fought to get to the NFL and he was finally going to get a pretty dang good payday. He would easily have gotten $1million plus and most likely somewhere around 2-5 million / year in a two year contract. Now the idiot will sit on his couch for the next year he may get signed for a few hundred thousand but that is it. He just F-ed his whole life to do drugs (we don't know if it was "just" pot or something more. He is an idiot and he sure didn't help the team. One CB injury now and we are in a REALLY REALLY BAD SPOT

There is no way right now that I can be this positive.......... :(
