Schneider or McDonald- catalyst for draft philosophy change?

I think this draft was very direct. They took the players it seemed like we needed. If we needed a tackle instead of a gaurd do you think they still woulda took Zable? I do. I think need and the board and the absence of Pete is what gave this draft a different flavor, I even felt shades of Pete when we took that safety like when we took spoon over Jalen Carter, but then I saw how big that dude was and I was like yeah ok I like it

I think it's a combination of MM clearly stating his vision for the team and what the team's needs are and JS fully supporting that vision, which is what a good GM does. The best example of this was JS moving up to get Emmanwori. Listening to the press conferences, it was clear that MM considered Emmanwori a must have and JS made it happen. That's what a good GM does.

It feels like we draft more for need in day 1 and 2, then switch to best player available in day 3.

I believe Schneider did learn to stop drafting for need early, and just take BPA. He deserves credit for that. But he does also take his coaches philosophy in mind when making picks. Zabel, & Ouzts are guys who make the offense more physical, which is MM's vision. Emmanwori is his chess piece on defense, and Milroe is a QB that has flashed elite traits reminiscent of LJ.

I think, in Schneider's eyes, the timing finally lined up for him to take a QB. He has a QB on the roster that he envisions starting for the next 2 years, and a QB with high upside fell to the 3rd round that can sit & develop in those 2 years.

I hate to blame PC, but I (partly) will anyway. MM having a much better understanding of what was already on the team (without looking through PC's rose colored glasses) and knowing what direction they needed to go, along with PC having no input, I think might have been a much less restrictive draft room than before. A bit of addition by subtraction.
It could be that a young, fresh perspective (MM) in JS's ear might have reinvigorated him to be better. Whatever the real reason, I like the first draft that they put together.

Make or break time for JS, collaborative sure, as I stated heavy lean to what Kubiack and Darnold needs for the offense to work, throw in some MM flavor on defense and thats the draft we got.
