Not sure if I remember the timings right, but weren't we the last team to hire a head coach last off season? then we waiting quite awhile to name that OC? Please correct me if wrong.

I am wondering if Grubb was a Schneider hire or a Macdonald hire. It really ought to be Macdonald's decision to make, right? If so, it was MM's decision on having an all rookie coaching team, a first time HC, a first time DC and an OC never coached in the league.

With all three learning on the job, MM learning how to build a team culture, Grubb learning how to handle NFL's multimillionaire players. We may not have XO problem at this point but more of the a team spirit issue? Or as 12thmenrising reported: " the fabric of the team could be coming apart at the seams a bit." Coming apart after 6 games?

It comes back to who hired Grubb? If it was Schneider, our HC wasn't allowed to assemble his own staff? That would be dysfunction from day one. If it was MM, why an all rookie coaching?

Ok I am done with my incoherent ranting. Sorry guys.

Not hating on Grubb, but damn...

Still really, really wish we went Chip Kelly. That would've been my choice.

I have high hopes, but low faith that Grubb will become a good OC. I'd bet that JS was the driving force behind his hire as JS probably has some level of personal friendship with him.

I have to ask here, why the focus on the Grubb hiring? It’s true that our offensive line isn’t up to par but overall the offense is holding its own. If the defense was on par we could easily be 5-1 right now.

With that said, I expected our defense to take some time to get to where we want them, but I do believe that we have some deeper issues in that side of the ball than the coaching staff is willing to admit.

yes!! Like our LB's being awful. remember at the beginning of the season when everyone was worried about this? They were right.

Damn.

3-3 and the sky is falling.

Like, what exactly do you want from this season?

Not going to win every game and someone always needs to be blamed on this staff.

At least give this front office a few more years before calling for their heads and end up looking like the Jets.

Nah, man. Chip Kelly definitely would've been worse. I think Grubb can work, we just need to temper our expectations this season. With a year in the pros under his belt, and hopefully a better OL, maybe he looks significantly better next season. 6 games into his pro career, and the team has put up 20+ in every game so far. (Granted, against the Giants, they really only put up 13 because of the fumble return) But there's reason for hope. 🤞

I would have gladly signed up for 3-3 before the season. I don't see us making playoffs at this point. But.......I'd love to be wrong. Rollercoaster, and that's ok.

You asked a really good question and got me thinking:
  1. Too much time on my hands.
  2. At this point, our team have some spirit, and locker room issues, which are confidence (in coaching) and culture-related.
  3. If Schneider squeezed Grubb on Macdonald, it's dysfunctional, which could lead to confidence and culture issues.
  4. If Macdonald only wants guys that have less whatever than him, it could also lead to locker room issues.
I suspect that we waited and waited to hire a HC for whatever reason. Then for whatever reason, Macdonald either didn't have a list of coaches ready to join him, or those guys changed their minds at the last minute. That led to a last-minute hiring of Grubb.

I am not loving how Schneider handled his first month of being the top guy with Pete as his security blanket.

Don’t you remember the Dino’s pub night? It was Schneider, Macdonald, and one of their other assistant coaches meeting Grubb for beers. I believe it was a dual hire. Hawk Blogger mentioned that Mike met Grubb at last year’s combine and was impressed, stayed in touch.

Give it time. The offensive line sucks on the interior. Right tackle is stricken with injuries. But there’s a lot of youth on the line that will gel. K9 was hurt and is explosive with every touch, and will be fed more. I think Grubb will be excellent as OC.
