Relationships are the one thing that can compete with money for a coaching career. We could offer Benton a bag of cash and an elevated position and have a chance to keep him that way, but we can't really overcome a relationship developed between Kub and him.
I don't know how that will turn out but I do know we still have MacD pulling the strings for our puppet and I have faith in his judgement.

Was talking to my buddy at the cigar lounge about this last night.
IMO, he is as good as gone. Both AZ and LV remain coachless and they both seem to have major interest.

Doesn't take a genius to see he prob has his pick of either place and is leaving.

Three things regarding this:

1. If this happens this will be the third OC in three years for Mike Mac. Continuity is key and next year its back to the starting line for the O while the D has had a two year head start.

2. Retaining the OLine coach is going to be a major priority if/when Kubiak leaves. Don’t know much about the dude except he did a hell of a job with a position group that has been an isssue for us for longer than a decade. Hope we can pay him to stay.

3. John and Mike Mac have tried to operate ahead of curve and look around corners so they are prepared instead of just reacting. They have to see the writing on the wall and hope they have a succession plan in place.

This is why the NFL is so great. You have success, your team gets picked apart and other teams get better. Just hoped it would have taken a few years before it happened to this special team. Look at the Lions as an example. Hell, we did the same thing to Baltimore when we got Mike Mac.

John and Mike have been pulling a lot of rabbits out of hats lately. One wonders if finding Kubiak's replacement is when their luck runs out.

Jody needs to just roll out the truck and offer the man Chip Kelly money.

Not the same coaching pieces, but this year Detroit showed us what happens when you choose poorly.

Yeah, I’m sure the Raiders wanted Kubiak after they saw the now superstar of Darnold and the phenomenal growth of JSN.

We will lose Kubiak, I hope, we have a contingency plan at OC that continues the success for the offense.

Just give it to Peetz and hire a solid run game coordinator.

FWIW

"Peetz is a rare schematic hybrid. He speaks the native language of the Sean McVay offense (having worked as his Pass Game Specialist in LA) but also possesses the “Spread” DNA of Joe Brady (whom he worked alongside in Carolina and replaced as OC at LSU). He is not just a “West Coast” coach; he is an architect who blends complex pro-style protections with the explosive, receiver-friendly concepts of the modern college game."

"Protection Wizardry: Having coached in the SEC and under McVay, Peetz is known for his detailed understanding of protection schemes. He knows how to keep a pocket passer like Goff clean."

I genuinely don't care about next year. They'll find a solution and be fine. I just want to minimize distractions as much as possible this week and make sure Kubiak is as focused as possible at calling a perfect game to go out on. I don't want to see another DeBoer situation. I trust Macdonald is a preparation perfectionist and will be on it.

Kubiak gonna get paid, have high picks acrossed the board and cap space.

Hawks aren’t far behind on that cap availability… a good move for Kubiak and will be great for Mendoza. Just need to reload. Sucks we can’t seem to ever keep an elite coordinator past 1 year and hard to believe already a 3rd OC incoming. I think keeping as much system continuity from our current staff is going to be crucial.

I hope he enjoys several losing/mediocre seasons after jumping ship on a dynasty in the making
History under Mark Davis, moreso given the current strength of the AFC West, would suggest two seasons, three tops;I.e-he doesn’t have a John Gruden resume.

I don't fault him at all for chasing his head coaching dream. As I said it before, the Raiders' job has a bunch of positives to it, a top draft pick (QB), quality draft capital, lots of CAP space, more of both perhaps forthcoming, guys like Bowers and Jeanty as weapons for their new QB, new stadium, good facilities, and a team that had the worst record this year, thus setting a very low bar for KK to show improvement over the next few years. Sure, there's Mark Davis and the recent dysfunctionality of the franchise to contend with, but you could do worse for your first HCing gig.

The bummer is that with all the recent transactions/fillings and our playoff run, a lot of the good potential replacements got gobbled up already.

That's what I'm talking about. Yup. He has learned a ton under McVay and no doubt alongside Kubiak. He is already embedded in the culture, knows the players, knows the offense, knows what Sam likes...

I think him getting the gig if Kubiak goes is likely why he hasn't already gone to Detroit.

Who knows how much Peetz influenced Kubiak? There's no way to tell really because Kubiak has never had this much success in one stint. We do know that they have both been along for the ride and both have had a chance in shaping this offense .

There is also no way to tell how good a tactician Peetz can be. That's really important... I mean we all saw how interesting some of the plays that Waldron drew up were and how absolutely horrible he was at in game strategy.

All that said, I would wager the Hawks turn to him if Kubiak bounces.

I don't know. We haven't been 'fine' on offense before this year in quite some time. Grubb killed this offense last year. Waldron was a lot better and he can't find an OC job anywhere else in the league and was run out of Chicago. Look at their offense now.

Having somebody good... A good tactician, someone good at scheme design and putting Sam and this run game in a position to succeed... That doesn't just happen.

I guess my "offseason optimism" (a week early on that) is that Macdonald was quick to pull the plug on Grubb and found a solution. I think he goes into that next search learning from both the failure and the success. That's my hope any way.

Agree, only issue is we will be a month later this year and the pickings will be even slimmer.
