I can’t believe we still have to debate this.
The FO does not care about winning. Hence the payroll. Not going after any free agents. The only reason they got Arozarena was because we gave up absolutely nothing. The team is cheap in every way. Money, prospects, you name it. The reason they didn’t add another impact bat was probably because they didn’t want to trade any of the big name prospects.
Only chance we win a WS is if we luck into it. We’d basically need to hit on all our prospects while they’re young before we pay them.
My point is, it doesn’t matter who the manager is. It doesn’t matter if Raley or Garver hit last night. Until the FO actually cared about it winning, our ceiling is basically a wild card team. The only reason winning the division is possible is because how awful it is.
I'm guessing you mean ownership, if so, I couldn't agree more.
This franchise is never going to do anything against the teams that are willing to spend whatever it takes to be legit WS contenders unless they drastically overachieve and get exceptionally fortunate. But rest assured, they will never, ever give themselves the best chance to win by building the best team reasonably possible regardless of cost. Ownership just isn't willing to spend what it takes to do that.
