So we have the two unluckiest QBs in the league battling it out for QB1. Lock gets covid. Good luck for Geno! Then Geno gets drops and penalties at inopportune times, doesn't lead the team to TDs. Bad luck for Geno!
One of the huge problems Geno has had this preseason is he's allowed at least 3 big returns on special teams that flipped field position. Yeah, I know Geno doesn't even play special teams, but maybe he should be attending their meetings during the week and giving them motivational talks? After all, as Russell says, the separation is in the preparation. </sarcasm>
The point is that Geno isn't good enough, as it stands now, to overcome miscues by the rest of the team. Of course, guys who CAN overcome teammate miscues typically cost in the double digit millions per year. While Geno is somewhat mobile, he's not very elusive, and can't really extend plays against NFL defenders. However, Geno has proven he is a serviceable NFL backup. So the good news is that with the salary cap savings, Seattle can have a couple-three additional talented players on the team, probably Carroll will use the cap saving$ on D, like an Avril and Bennett back in the day, and the D should keep us in a lot of games, so that Geno can fail to win them at the end.
The result is, good luck for Lock, he gets an extra week of learning and the opportunity to show what he can do with the 1's. Will he be Lucky Lock this time? Or will he be Lost Lock and hand the QB1 job to Geno?
