The D will help the Hawks get those 8 or more wins! Sorry Haters.

I do believe the defense will be improved this season, but if they're going to the play offs it will be a team effort that is needed. There just to green to make it rigth now.

Cheers

Where are they green exactly, besides CB?
And even there, all the reports are that A Burns is playing well above Where they thought he would. M Blair is back and looks good. Coleman is a vet and has been here before.

Safety - tons of experience.
LB- Brooks almost led the league in tackles playing a position that was new to him. Now he's back in the middle. Nwosu? Vet. Barton, vet.

We have probably about the same number of fresh faces as the average defense. They are younger, but not inexperienced.

And by all accounts, they are all over the scheme adjustment, and applauding the move.

Just saying - the idea that these guys are going to be like deer in headlights... I just don't see it.

I'm absolutely feeling early LOB vibes from these guys. And even morese now that the word out of camp is that the CB group might be the most talented and impressive on the team.

Thanks for the chuckle. Nothing about our D this year says championship. We are absolutely in a rebuild, as we should be, after losing the 2 best players on the team.

Brooks outplayed Bobby last year. And Barton looked faster when he was in than Bobby did. Bobby is. HoFer, but past his prime.

Russ... better that Denver has him. Not to say the guys we have will be as spectacular, but they don't have to be.

So if the calculus is merely ' we suck because we lost 2, aging and past their primes, franchise guys', that's fine. But it ignores literally everything else happening on the team right now.

Brooks didn't outplay Bobby last year, that is false. Wagner was still playing good football, true it was not up to his norms -- but he still wasn't bad. Brooks was great in run defense but a huge liability in pass protection. Brooks sometimes ran himself out of plays as well. Very much still a green player, and that is okay -- he's young but coming along and becoming a good linebacker. Also worth noting that Brooks was playing OLB, he's going to be playing a different role entirely this season.

This is also backed up by pff scores. Bobby was significantly higher than Brooks on the PFF scores, not that this is a perfect measurement -- but it is worth mentioning. Wagner was NOT bad last season and he was still our best linebacker and among one of the best linebackers in the league. He was a cap casualty because of age, and the amount he was getting paid. We had to cut fat somewhere to get Adams and Diggs under contract. Having that much tied up in two safeties and a linebacker wouldn't have been a smart play.

Fair. Bobby was graded higher, but he sure didn't look a ton better in coverage. And Brooks finished 2nd in the NFL from the OLB position. In theory, that's harder to do unless defenses are constantly keying on your side on the ground.

Point is though, that Brooks isn't a wet behind the ears player and both he and Barton had significantly more pop on plays. It was most noticeable to me in the Arizona game..

And Brooks' coverage woes should be helped considerably by the shift to 3-4. The middle of the defense (bobby's) zone, was absolutley picked apart for the last several years. Qbs threw there at will. Not blaming Bobby so much as highlighting how easy it was to exploit a single area or pair in coverage. Won't be as easy this year.

The thread was about the D.

But neither of our QBs are green, nor DE's and it looks like we'll be starting one rookie on the OL.

It's not that they can't do better than that. Or even that they could be good (really unlikely, but possible).

But if you're looking at a team with two castaways/washouts from other teams competing for the QB job along with all the other holes that exist and don't think it's most likely they are among the worst in the league (and have to play in a seemingly very difficult division) and you think "this is disrespectful"? You're probably going to be very disappointed.

Can you expand on 'all the other holes' ?

I think you are going to be very surprised.

I do believe this team will be pretty bad this year but having them below the Falcons, Jaguars, Bears, Panthers, Texans, and even the Jets is silly. We will have a good D this year I think provided we have finally fixed our C.B. spots(biggest thing is firing Ken Norton). Our run game should be solid and we have outstanding wide recievers. The only thing that is really poor on this team is our QB spot and maybe our O line having a lot of growing pains with 2 new tackles.
Unfortunately those are 2 really important spots. I expect somewhere around 6 maybe 7 wins this year.

This years crop of rookies have talent but, again rookies are prone to mistakes even Brant and Mafe. After week 6 they'll be settled in. Offense has there own set of issues too. The passrush has been a issue for two years now.

An elite QB could not single handedly win games, but a bad QB can certainly single handedly lose games, especially when the defense played well and scores were tight.

Bill Walsh emphasized poised under pressure for his QBs, lacking of that will led to cracking under pressure.

Therein lies the huge hole of 2022 Seahawks. They have bad QBs. This is the main reason why even with an improved defense, the team will struggle to win games.

We shall see! Toffee the homer is basing his homerism on Geno's 5TDs - 1 INT turnover ratio of 2021, hoping that he could come close to that ratio over a season.

But yes, poor QB play could single handedly lose games, not unlike a pitcher in baseball, can't win games by himself by sure can lose games by making the wrong pitches.

I think this post is a good discussion that this team is better than the Haters like to preach. A good D will keep the Hawks in many games that an average game manager QB will be able to turn into a win.

The sky isn't falling in Seattle as many here would have you believe. This is not a "TOTAL REBUILD" regardless of how many times people need to say it.

This year will be a return to what made the Hawks great initially after Pete got here. The new QB will be had next year and he does not have to be from the first round.

The Hawks just needed to get off the RW merry-go-round and back to what made them good in the first place. The D will surprise many I bet.

I think a lot of us like what the team has, especially on D. Unfortunately 8-9 wins in the NFL, is purgatory. We need a QB still.

The D looked awful.

I get the ability to run on us. The whole thing with the 3-4 is it is easier to run on, but harder to pass against. Any maybe we aren't dialing up much pressure in the preseason.

I am seeing tons of mistakes. Hopefully, those are the issue with a new scheme.

But the problem is that our defense allowed the offense to pretty much do what it wanted. Forget about the mistakes, for the most part - the offense failed when it failed to execute not because we forced it into something.

It looked disjointed, easy to execute against - even though we came with pressure a few times.

Hoping it gets better.
