He wants a line to buy him the 3 plus seconds it usually takes for him to run around and find an open wr. Look at his highlights. The guy has lived on long developing plays, broken plays improvisation. He's absolutley killed it when he's made plays when the pocket didn't hold up, but his idea of 'protection' and 'open' is far different than it needs to be to get to the next level. And he can't get around the fact that his height does impact his ability to see the field in the first 1.5 seconds after the snap. The deeper he drops, the more he sees and there's a sweet spot where his wrs have gained time to win enough separation for him and when his line can no longer hold. He's struggled because he lives on that edge. He needs the time, and the time works against him because he's not a 3 step drop or 5 step drop qb, and unless it's a quick slant or quick out, he's likely not hitting thr middle on crosses to exploit zones and split high low coverages.

I must confess that I was mesmerized by those long developing plays, it was magic and I was addicted to them. I was a diedhard Russ fan. The addiction ended in '19 or so, it felt like the first 3 quarters were staged and built up for that 4th quarter magic.

"IF" what Corbin Smith reported was true, it does explained why his teammates kept their distance or downright unfriendly to Russ. In this case, Russ said he was against replacing Schotty, etc etc, AFTER he told Pete to replace Schotty, how would ya like that from a teammate?

Wonderful article, thanks for sharing. I have been saying that Pete sold his soul to Wilson only to be dump like a sack of potatoes. I felt like Pete ought to be fired for his mishandling of Russell Wilson, although at the time, I thought he was doing the right thing.

Anyways, the greatness of Tom Brady included guys will come out of retirement, or take a pay cut just to be with him. One truly can't say that about Russ, come to think of it, if Broncos come knocking for Lockett, I wonder how Lockett will response? One thing we do know, Tyler rather play catch with Kaep than train with his own QB

He is still an accurate thrower, super strong arm that can make all kinds of throw and some unique to him. I have been voicing in the past years that Russ hasn't been focused on football, from his branding endeavor of hospital visits, to wife's Hollywood activities, to his video production, to his water or whatever mechanizes selling. It all adds up.

I always liked PC and thought the same shining thoughts that others felt about RW3. He could do little wrong.

I can now see that some of his mistakes have been major contributing factors to the eroding of the team culture.

I'm sure that for some people, it is sour grapes.
My (and I'm assuming your) viewpoint on Wilson certainly wasn't as popular as it is now that he's gone. But there was always truth to it, especially post mid-2020.

My main beef is, for whatever reason, he tears the team apart from within. Slowly, not methodically as if part of a larger strategy, but slowly amping up the discord and pressure... and that's what he has been doing for the past three years. or so.

It's best that he is gone. The franchise needs a fresh start, and thus far, I like the first steps of that process.

Wilson got his feelings hurt when Schotty called him out. He doesn’t like the cold hard truth thrown in his pie hole. He cried about it, gave an ultimatum and cooked up some embarrassing quarterback play during the aftermath. I mean if he was Marino I would let it slide but he’s more of a Doug Flutie with a good deep ball than anything.

Yup.
Russel has never taken criticism well, it seems. Rifts between he and the LOB. Friction between Russ and ADB (although Doug channeled it positively). But who better to assess how well the qb play on your own team is than one of the best defenses of all time?? Yet rarely if ever was there the praise of Russ by them the way you see defensive teammates of other great QBs praise their craft. Rather, there's an odd coddling by the coach of the qb - a hands off... dont say this or that approach to grooming the signal caller. One that led to departures and middle fingers.

And even last year with DK, and the comments Tyler made about lack of prepping or prepping for the wrong thing.
Russ has been about Russ from the beginning and has left at his departure a wake of discontent, confusion and ultimately disconnection between a franchise and the philosophy that made it great. In a weird way, it almost ended before it began. Hopefully we are back on track again.

The never holding the guy to account. And in the end all it did was tarnish Pete's own reputation for actually being the guy that held Wilson back... Oh, the tangled web. To this day, the idea that the team struggled offensively because Wilson had bad games... many bad games, is far fetched, haterism.

Nobody said Wilson was perfect, or even a good guy.

Plenty of QBs are jerks. Aaron Rodgers comes to mind. It is probably self-absorption more often, not sure it is that important.

Wilson always came off as a bit of a narcissist, but it was that otherworldly confidence that inspired teammates to believe they could win in tough situations.

He was our best chance moving forward, but we don't have him now.




And Keasely, you are not being honest if you aren't acknowledging that Pete DID hold Wilson back. Repeatedly. Wilson had bad games, missed throws, and some Rex Grossman syndrome. The LOB hated him for that. I remember it too. But there is no way to defend 50 yds passing at the half. That was Pete, not Wilson.

I disagree. This thread contains an actual report with a trusted source about how everything we knew about the 2021 firing of an offensive coordinator was likely wrong. Kind of an important and interesting update, unlike stuff like "Russ wants to win in Denver," etc.
