Your Thoughts On Kearse post '14?

Jermaine is like the Tanzania sign in that there is an element of magic in him. Anytime he pulls down a TD or a big play, I feel like the other team has been cursed and a Seattle win is inevitable. I'd say he's a keeper.

I like Kearse. I think a lot of people on here ( not including Hawkwow) under value him. He's proven he can catch big time catches in big games, Doesn't drop a lot of easy balls. I would like to keep him. The recievers aren't the issue.

Kearse is our best downfield target since the beginning of 2013 with or without Tate here, and despite the pure speed of Richardson and Lockette. I keep seeing these posts about Tate and I wonder if you know wth team you're watching. It was Tate who went invisible down the stretch last season (after that Rams game) and Kearse who stepped up bigtime and played his arse off making some of our biggest and most timely plays. Especially through the playoffs. We'll never have a WR who produces a lot. Only ones that make plays when they come their way. Kearse does that. He's also the only WR we have that can bully DBs. He's the only one we have right now who will flat out run over a DB if he has no where to go and then let them know about it.

That said, he's not going to warrant a whole lot to keep and we very well should be able to keep him for probably less than a Dougie Fresh deal. Oh, and BTW, Kearse has been a stud on ST as well.

There's not some big dilemma here....

The reason Kearse was so successful last year was because he was a #4 WR, he has been thrown into a position he probably isn't good enough for this year. I think he will be back next year but it will be on the cheap or he is gone.

I will say, he's exceeded the extremely low expectations i had for him.

This is a dude who was an automatic drop unless the catch was damn near impossible, then he'd somehow make that catch, but not the easy right in the bread basket one when he was at UW. Then he came to the Hawks and has done some good things for us. But I donh't think he's a keeper, I believe we will tender him for competition purposes, but I don't see a major need for Kearse in the long haul.

Your points are valid, TD, I too recall his many drops at UW after once slating him as our next Reggie. But as you suggested, he has all but got over the drops and let's not forget, there was a time he was looking like a high rounder, so he paid a very steep price for those drops while at UW. But you don't suggest his replacement or how we should go about finding one.

Lots of love for Kearse in this thread and I just think that is very cool. Again...because the numbers suggest he's not worthy.

Numbers aside, Kearse epitomizes who we are (were) as a team. The non-drafted, un-heralded, fighting for identity story. Now, maybe we're just too cool for such guys. Let's replace the blue collared guys like Tate and Kearse with glam boys like percy harvin. Then wonder why we are barely recognized anymore. We barely recognize ourselves anymore.

What's a little ironic is ...had Kearse's SB TD been the game winner, no question, it would have been the greatest play in SB history...if not NFL history.

I think all considered, including hometown discount (which I think actually applies here) 3 years, 3 mil would be fair, imo.

Largely depends on what we do with the position in the offseason. If they went for a big name via trade/FA, which I firmly believe they will.. then Kearse is very expendable considering Richardson and Norwood's presence.

Aikman mentioned yesterday, as have several other color guys that know the game, we simply don't have a WR that can "take the top off a defense" (deep threat). P-Rich might be that guy as time goes on but that remains to be seen. I agree with Hasselbeck's take here. They've been trying for the last 3-4 years to get that tall deep threat guy and this offseason I think they do. As a result, Kearse is let go.

I, as others, like Kearse and what he has done. He has been clutch, but he has never been a speed guy and consistent separation will remain an issue. He has a place in the offense right now, but he will never be a high numbers receiver. What happens to him has a lot to do with additions at WR (which I really believe is needed- see above post) as well as the continued development of Norwood and Richardson.

He's playing like a "pedestrian" receiver this season. He doesn't deserve high tender.

He is this decades Paul Skansi........ I believe he is a value up until he gets a decade in. Skansi averaged in 10 years: 16 catches, 200 yards and a touchdown a season. He was really important as a WR blocker, sure handed 3rd down specialist and a special teams stand out. Kerse is valuable in many ways.

Yeah, we could use a #1 receiver... but you could bring in Andre Johnson or draft the next 6' 5" stud and they still would probably only get 800 yards in this offense... We say our receivers don't get open or get separation, yet I consistently see the Manning's and Brady's and Rodger's and Brees' of the world making pinpoint throws/completions to receivers who are in traffic and covered... For whatever the reason, and we can all draw our own conclusions, that's not our game right now. But I would guess that if you take Kearse or any of our other "pedestrian" receivers and drop them in to one of those other offenses they'd probably look a lot better than they do in Seattle right now.

Kearse is a decent 4th or 5th option on an NFL WR depth chart, and that's all he'll ever be.

There's a reason he was undrafted, he just doesn't do anything exceptionally well. He's not tall, he's not big, he's not fast, he's not super tough like Tate or Doug, which is the trait that helps those guys rise above the average receiver.

But Pete likes underachievers because they work their asses off and don't complain about catching 40 balls a year.

No reason not to pay Kearse 2-3 million on a one year tender to increase competition. It's stupid to just let productive RFAS go.

I don't think it's an easy answer at this point. But it doesn't need to be.

Right now, we need him. I'd guess, at the end of the season, he's still more valuable to the Hawks than to any other team. There are a lot of borderline WRs across the league that bring more name recognition as return guys or Special Team aces. That may not be true. Maybe his agent can sell him as being held back by the system like Golden Tate. I think, as has been mentioned, he's probably a decent #3 in a normal setting. I'd guess the Hawks let him shop around and see what he can get. He's a restricted FA (right?) so Hawks would have first right of refusal to match any offer. I'd also guess he ends up in camp at some point. Maybe not on day one because he's still fishing, but eventually. I think.... From there, it all depends on who else is at camp: draft picks, FAs, injuries, suspensions....

I think RW would also have some input if he makes it to camp. They've been mutual supporters from day one. If there are 10 WRs in camp next offseason and RW gets Kearse the ball a lot, he might just hang around. ... have to wait and see.

I like Kearse, but I think he has more value on the FA market than we should give him. I still don't project him much higher than where he is now.

I would guess Seattle gives Kearse a fair offer as a number 2 (maybe number 3) WR and if he doesn't take it they will put a 3 round tender on him.

I like Norwood and Richardson and I think with a year of experience under their belt, they will give the Seahawks some leeway in the draft day and in free agency next season. I would guess Seattle will draft another middle round WR or TE and if Kearse leaves they will make a play for a FA or two, but nothing to big money wise (unless someone they really love becomes available at their price).

I don't think we have a choice but to sign a proven guy in the off-season and pay him some cash. I'm stating the obvious, but our receiving corps is well, pedestrian. Regarding Kearse, I don't really care one way or the other. He's ok, but nothing special imo.

What talented WR would want to come here though with our offensive philosophy? They're certainly not going to put up monster stats.

Unless something wacky happens over the next couple of months aka RW and JK create a love connection via the airwaves, I'm confident that when Teflon-John sits down with Kearse's agent, Kearse will be considered and treated as a 3 and probably 4. As he should be, imo.

I've found new love for the kid since not loving him at the Dub, but I will always be team 1st and again, would try to lowball Jermaine with one of those patented "show me" deals, hoping to pay him absolutely no more than (maybe) 1.5 per. A few above kinda missed my point with this thread and see it as me saying Kearse is a must keep. I'm not saying that at all and I'm not saying he's top tier. I'm just saying that if we are to keep 6, and the price is right, Kearse should be in that group.

I did like the Skansi comparison and maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed we got more out of Skansi than we are getting out of Kearse, but there's so many other elements involved that I feel it a bit disingenuous to use only numbers in determining whether Kearse should be retained or not. Like Golden Tate, I will hope for Kearse's success wherever he lands. He helped to make us champions and I will never forget his heroics in doing so.

Different offense, we passed a lot more with Kreig..
