I call him Russell Wilson cause that's his name but I may type RW to make it quicker or easier when on here. Names have made into initials here for a long time - but good luck on your quest to change the internet.

I thought RW3 was clever at first, but then I thought about it and decided it's really stupid. It is a nickname that wouldn't exist if RG3 didn't exist, so really it's copycat/wannabe BS. BS3? ugh I don't know how to abbreviate bullshit anymore...

Anyway, my opinion on the matter matches one I read in another thread.
Joe Montana's nickname was Joe Montana
Steve Young's nickname was Steve Young
John Elway's nickname was John Elway
Dan Marino's nickname was Dan Marino
Peyton Manning's nickname is Peyton Manning
Drew Brees's nickname is Drew Brees
Tom Brady 's nickname is Tom Brady

This list could go on for quite a while. I can't think of a great quarterback who had a nickname. Broadway Joe maybe...but he's not in the discussion of all-time greats.
Let's give Wilson a chance to make a lasting impact on this league. Assigning a nickname trivializes him...especially when it's based on some other dude's nickname.

Naw, F it...let's call him Crazylegs Sweetness "the Refrigerator" 3.

I voted Russel Wilson, but RW works for me in forum posts. If someone said "RW" to me in verbal conversation, I'd likely say, "Who?"

Joe Cool
The Blonde Bomber

how many superbowls does that add up to

So you're telling me, that when you talk about those two quarterbacks, you use those names? For realsies? You, sir, are in the vast minority. If I went on the street, in front of our stadium, on gameday, and asked 100 people who those people were, I would guess that no one under the age of 35 would be able to answer. However, if I said, "who was Joe Montana" or "who was Terry Bradshaw" I'd get 100 correct answers.
For the record, I had to look up who the hell the blonde bomber was.
But you know what? You're right. Those two guys had nicknames for a while, that no one uses anymore, so let's just do it! Let's cheese the place up and call Russell Wilson something stupid!

I hereby propose we call him Ocho Cinco menos Ocho Dos!

This exactly. The fact that it truly bothers people is endlessly hilarious.

#RW3! #RW3! #RW3!

Well there are different things here. When I talk about Russell I use the full name - Russell Wilson. When I write on this forum I use RW.

The reason for the thread is not that I care about the debate but I am a bit tired of people saying RW3 on sportcenter and instead of the thread being about the interview it is about what we call Russell Wilson.........

cracks me up, what people will get worked up over... i don't mind dangeruss , i just call him RW...

but from now on i will be referring to RG3 as " Bob Griffin" because it makes him sound less dangeruss? see what i did there?

Two strikes against "Dangeruss" : (1) A Redskins fan agrees with it (2) It is so LAME!!! ... Come on, even RW3 is better than that. He was QB3 before the season and now he's RW3. He wears #3 and he was drafted in the third round, so it makes sense. Plus, even if Russell Wilson doesn't like it (somebody has said) -- the fact is that he will ALWAYS be compared to RG3 -- that will just be a fact. Their stats are almost identical and they play a very similar game. Denying that they will forever be copmpared will be denying the reality.

Do you know that Russell himself uses the name DangeRuss? You wanna give him a call and tell him to stop using it?

Seeing as I am a grown man I voted for Russell Wilson.

RW for short if he needs to be referenced quickly; as in PC,JS etc.

they're both pretty famous nicknames
but that doesn't mean people called them that exclusively.

Deion Sanders will always be Deion Sanders to me. That doesn't mean he's not also Primetime.
Reggie White is Reggie White. I don't go around saying "the Minister of Defense" but everyone knows who that is too

It could be worse: at least people aren't going the "first initial-abbreviated last name route" and calling him "R-Dub" or some such.

I've grown fond of calling him 'Tarvaris Jackson', because I'm still not ready to let go. :(

I suppose you are correct here. All sarcasm aside. I guess the main issue I have is that RW3 is clearly based on RG3's nickname. That implies a deference to RG3 that I think is unwarranted.

It's not based on RGIII's nickname. It's his own initials and his number. If his number was 4 he'd be RW4.

Am I the only person here who doesn't think about Robert Griffen when we're talking about Russ?
