I’m still in my post draft honeymoon phase…

But ugh.

Seeing this written up, I really wish we could have found a way to 1.) draft Jared Wilson or 2.) picked up Dalman or Fries.

Darnold really struggles under pressure and the line has me worried. I’m sure I’m just over reacting though,.

Cross. Zabel. Manages. Olu. Lucas.

One thing I noticed from the Viki gs game is that Darnold was faster than Geno. Release and recognition was better

Regardless of who we throw out there it will take 8 games or so before we start seeing sustained production, Grubb had Haynes in the dog house all year and didn't help him come along as he should have, so really this is a rookie year again for him but has the experience of getting his ass handed to him by NFL lineman.
Watching Laumea have games where he was one of the worst rated guards in history, it was baffling that Haynes wasn't given all the opportunity Laumea got.

Haynes will start at LG this year and look good. Better coaching and scheme that fits him certainly will help, but also a year in an NFL facility and playing against NFL players goes a long way for a player coming out of UConn

Last year we had 5 guys going 1:1 with no chipping, blocking backs, rollouts, or anything else to help them function as a unit. Also, we ran a lot of power -- which I believe is why Haynes lost his job to Bradford. This year we're going to be running wide zone, 12 personnel, 22 personnel, be under center more... There's no way our OL will be as bad as last year, and that's even before we added Zabel, Cabeldue, and Richman.

And keep in mind, we were running wide zone under Waldron, then Grubb went spread, now we're back to wide zone. I would expect Cross, Lucas, Olu, and Bradford in particular to be familiar with this system and the kind of athletes that we drafted to run wide zone. (Haynes was a Grubb draftee, but he was also described as an ideal ZBS guard.)

Looking at this depth chart, Josh Jones is the oldest guy at 27. Every spot is 3-deep with a young, hungry athlete brought in to run wide zone. Sure we could bring in a veteran, but why would you? This competition is going to be fierce and MM has shown you either learn fast or get gone on this team.

There is reason for optimism!

I totally agree with this!! Except I hope Cabeldue beats out Bradford! Bradford is NOT a starting or even backup worthy Guard in the NFL. Dude FAT & SLOW!! He needs to be gone!

With the zone blocking scheme change I would say that Zabel should be the LG, Olu at center and then Bradford and Haynes at RG is a toss up. Bradford isn't a lock to start at RG because of the shift to zone blocking so Haynes may have a shot.

In theory if Zabel is your A+ anchor on the inside you shift him to center but I think Zabel can do more at LG teamed up with Cross next to him and help out Olu with that A gap on the QB's blind side.

RG is the easiest position to learn and play on the line so Bradford or Haynes being plugged in there is perfectly acceptable.
Mirrors my thoughts exactly!

Bradford & Haynes both on the bubble.
I don't think our RG is even on the roster yet.

We selected WR Tory Horton 166 in the 5th.
OG Jackson Slater (167)
OG Miles Frazier (171)

We took OG Bryce Cabeldue at 192 in the 6th and T/G Mason Richman at 234 in the 7th.

It is possible that none of the above mentioned players become solid starters but it will be interesting to watch.
In other words, hopefully Horton is better than a Who?

I think the starting lineup will be: Cross-Zabel-Olu-Bradley/Haynes-Lucas

I still have faith in the younger guys in their 2d/3rd years to really step up. Cab and Rich in the 6th/7th are depth picks. Maybe they take someone's job, but somehow I doubt it. I still takes a couple of years for Olinemen to really find their footing in the NFL for the most part. Zabel is (hopefully) one of those rare guys who can really step in from Day 1.

Nice table, good work! Almost all players listed on this table were drafted by the Hawks, lol, this is the Schneider line!

Maybe...

LT. Cross/Jones
LG. Zabel/Laumea
C. Olu/Sundell
RG. Bradford/Haynes/Cabeldue
RT. Lucas/Jerrel

Richman, Willie, Kight, Manages, Laulu, Elsbury, Fualalo.

I think Bradford & Haynes may be on the bubble if they don't show marked improvement early.

We need to find a vet OG preseason cut
To start at RG out the gate.

Fast & loose #'s, but 34M cap room, minus 14M draft leaves 20M. Save 10M for emergency $ and another 10 to sign a vet RG & CB at cut time to transition this young team into the season.

You never know which young OLineman could make a splash but they are all longshots. Regardless, I favor carrying 10 OL on the roster which will be hard for JS to do if they keep 3 QB's.
Maybe no music in camp, just pin your ears back.
LT. Cross/Jones

LG. Zabel/Cabeldue

C. Olu/Sundell

RG. Laumea/Haynes/Bradford

RT. Lucas/Richmond/Jerrell

I will be interested to see if Lucas is healthy and good to go this season. That was the most mysterious knee injury. It was never listed as an ACL, MCL, Patellar, etc.., as far as I know. There was a lot of smoke that it was a degenerative knee condition that will always be a problem. I don't count on Lucas until I see him go a full year playing well.

It's important to fix the running game. That ALONE will help the pass pro. Teams knew 100% we would have trouble running and they took advantage. Some of our formations were dead give aways to pass play so the defense could just pin their ears back and get super aggressive. That is 100% putting linemen in a position to fail big time. The over all offensive scheme and dedication to a quality run game should make a significant difference.

I think is how it ends up except start Haynes over Laumea at RG. Bradford I think is on the bubble and may be traded.

This is how desperate our OL situation is, our 2nd to last pick in the draft is instantly our backup RT.
And we can't even spell his name right.
*Richman, 7th rounder Mason Richman*, soon to be our starting RT.

JK. It's Jones, I think, I hope.
We need Lucas to stay healthy.

Bradford didn't win the spot so much as had it handed to him with a shrug and a flip of a coin. Way too many plays of him looking completely clueless out there, blocking nobody, falling over by himself. It was almost comical.

Haynes not beating him out suggests a doghouse situation to me.
