What if the unthinkable happens?

There's the short term view and the long term view.

The long term view is that this team is continually building and improving. No one but the most crazy optimistic fans expected a 14 win season and the #1 seed. Worst case, we're playing in the NFC championship. As others have noted, this coaching staff is VERY good at self analysis and identifying where to improve, and having the accountability (from front office to coaching to players) to actually implement change. So long-term, if the worst happens we celebrate a great year and look forward to next season with a lot more justified optimism.

Short term....one way or another, there's no way I'm watching the Rams in the Super Bowl. Not happening. It's the Seahawks playing on Feb 9, or I'm doing chores around the house. But my funk wouldn't last too long, it is after just a game.
Rams vs Patriots or Broncos is hellish. Only thing worse is the 49ers.

It's football, man. I said the same thing when my Aggies got beat by Miami. Then I proceeded to watch every second of every remaining game. I would watch the Rams in the Super Bowl, just to root for them to lose.

Speaking of the Super Bowl, I just looked up info on the ticket situation. A limited number will be made available to season ticket holders - I guess it's a raffle or something. Face value for the cheapest seats will be around $950 which will correspond to several thousand each on the secondary market. So I guess I should have gone back in '66 or '67 when it was affordable.

It's all good, we're a year ahead of schedule as it is. Next year is going to be fun as hell.
Have you seen our home schedule? It's friggin awesome. 14-3 will be tough, but man it will be fun to go to the games.

Yeah, like others have said, some of it will depend upon HOW we lost. Will I be more pissed off or heartbroken?

Big losses do take a bit of a toll on me, both as a fan and a coach. This one would be tough for me as a fan knowing how hard it is to get this close to grabbing the grail, all the uncertainties, and the closer you get, the more potential for disappointment and heartache. Also, we're realistically capable of winning it if we just play close to our capabilities. So there's that. I mean, if we were an underdog team now and lost a tough game, it would still suck to lose, but I would have an easier time rationalizing it, making peace with it, moving on. Lastly, this is such a likeable team in so many ways. I'd like to see the good guys win. :)

But if it happens, life goes on. Loss is a big part of life. It can be helpful sometimes to process it out with like-minded people, especially if it's a killer loss like against the Stealers and Pats. This site is good for that.

EXACTLY.

We can't think that this is the beginning of a run.

It is very difficult to get to this point every year.

The time to get it done is NOW.
This is true. The football gods have blessed this team thus far and you never know what will happen next season.

Someone might decide to build an electrical substation next to the VMAC.

I'm extremely grateful for this season. I will echo what others have. They feel a year ahead of schedule. This has been a blast. I'll be bummed if they don't pull it off, but no matter what, this season has been a massive success. I still think we pull it off. And I hope for an all nighter after. I've seen 3 trophy presentations at home, I want the 4th more than ANY of the previous ones. Including the Niners. This is set up to be an EPIC post season. Imagine for a second....knocking off the Niners AND the Clams in the same post season? Guaranteed a SB rematch if we win? Dare to dream. LMFG!!!!!!!

I was waiting for someone to start a thread on this. Look, win or lose Sunday this season was a HIGE success. Second year head coaches don't make this far on the normal. Macdonald is 25-10 as a Head Coach and that's pretty damn good. Some of the coaches that were hired as HC's with Macdonald are already fired Morris from Atlanta and there's a couple of others. If we don't win it all this year then we will win it all next year. This team is the next Dynasty with Macdonald leading the way. Our defense is gonna even be nastier next season. I think at some point we'll have the most dominate defense in NFL history, I really believe that.

This is the real Super Bowl, it's just not played in Santa Clara. The Hawks & Rams are very evenly matched with strength pitted against strength and every sword will be sharpened.
But make no mistake, from the moment they take the field, the Rams will know they've stepped into the Lions den. The 12's and this defense will take care of that.
My only concern is the refs giving an inopportune thumbs up or down to save the lamb from the Lion.

Figures Pmedic would put this out in the Universe, where it was always an underlying possibility bringing it out in the open creates negative thoughts and contemplation.

So now all sauces and staining type beverages and food will have to be eaten before the 4th quarter. Wife is going to be pissed at changing her plans for Nachos later.

I have seen the Jets game, Steelers game and Patriots game, gut retching losses have been part of this fanbases indoctrination, call it Hazing by the NFL if you wish. I will be pissed if it's a Offcicals issue or a unsportsmanlike issue by the other team. If we are beat due to being out played I will congratulate those on the other side and say we will be back. We have the right formula to make it back.

No matter the outcome, this season far passed my expectations. Either way, I'll be even more excited about the upcoming season knowing the potential of this up and coming team. I see Seattle on the up and both San Francisco and Los Angeles on the downward slide, Arizona...hit or miss, but I think they are not that far behind us, just a lousy bad luck of a season. Everything to get excited for and I can't wait to see what John and Mike do for this years draft....tweak the defense, solidify the offense, next season will be lights out...NFL you've been placed on notice...Seattle is rock'n this joint!

If we lose, it will be because of the O-line! GM's fault, if that's the case.

Why? Serious question, how we think has no effect on how the game is going to turn out or how the next 5 years go. It is OK to think in the positive. It is why earlier this year I predicted the 14 wins and us going to and winning the Super Bowl. It is OK to say it out loud. DYNASTY

It really depends on how long this DLINE will be together. Murph will be there for a long time, but a lot of older guys on the line as well.
