Every one shoots me down when I bring up Holmgren for future OC. Who I think would be a solid fit and whose ideals would patch up to what I think some of our obvious offensive weaknesses to be: No Power Running game, Red Zone struggles, Utilizing the Short to Intermediate passing game effectively into points, poor overall discipline, and getting maximum execution from the most predictable calls.
Which leads to Kubiak, when Houston's offense was running on all cylinders that last couple of years, it was amongst the league's best and perhaps most balanced offenses. Kubiak also shares a lot of the same WCO philosophies as Carroll as GK was 49ers QB coach in 1994, then spent a decade or so with Mike Shanahan as his OC before going to the Texans.
And by same philosophies, I mean: Deeply rooted in Gibb's ZBS, Reliance on a Strong Rushing Attack with workhorse RBs, Building WCO style passing attacks off of Play Action, Utilization of multiple targets and intricate formations. And no deepfield passing wasn't GK bread and butter approach to scoring but he'll take the shots whe the opportunities presented themselves. But to be fair, Matt Schaub was also more Matt Hasselbeck than Brett Farve in terms deep field arm strength.
Also, remember, Kubiak coached Steve Young during SFO's last Championship run, he also had John Elway for some years including his two Championship runs. So, I think he'll be able to utilize Wilson's skill set to its fullest potential if he were to land with the Seahawks.
And of course I'm just talking options for a new OC... not trying to set anything in stone... there's a chance Bevell is fired if Seahawks suffer a continued meltdown or he turns it around just in time to rally our Championship run and moves on to greener pastures as a result.
Plus, another positive with Kubiak is that if Bevell and Cable don't see eye to eye and their differences is affecting the play-calling or offensive philosophies... Cable and Kubiak should be a much more copacetic fit with the strong ZBS background.
