I'm 100% convinced that the NFL sucks at developing QBs. Smart teams have a backup that can play when the starter goes down, and a third stringer developmental QB. It is NOT a wasted roster spot to have a 3rd QB - it is the only smart thing to do.
Look at our QB history -
- Jim Zorn, signed by the cowgirls as an undrafted free agent to develop him.
- Dave Krieg, another undrafted free agent. They signed him to sit him behind Sam Atkins, the backup, to develop him.
- Matt Hasslebeck - drafted in the 6th round and sat on the Packers practice squad to develop
- Russell Wilson - drafted with the intention of sitting him behind Matt Flynn....to develop him. I guess that worked out better than intended...
Our history with can't-miss first rounders is less than stellar.
I'm all for trading Milroe if we get better than the pick we spent on him.....but then we'd need to draft another developmental QB. No doubt for the forums would trash on his replacement too.
