He seems to think they're not that far off. The content is roughly 15 minutes and he shows examples of where the defense has their breakdowns. It's worth checking out if you have the time. I think there is overall positivity. Even with the personnel they have at the moment, they'll be better before too long.

I think if Seattle get two solid starters on the offensive line (ahem at guard and right tackle) Seattle instantly will improve a lot.

If Schneider decides to make the offensive line an early round draft need (first round blue collar talent) and not pick via the remaining scrap haul, Seattle can improve quickly.

I hope Grubb is a better offensive line talent evaluator than Schneider has been. Cause Schneider’s record for talent picking is abysmal for offensive lineman.

It's interesting though. Aren't those things interconnected? He says the interior D-line isn't the problem but mentions that Murphy being out is having an impact. So without him - it is a problem because it can't play up to potential. He also mentions his legit concern is pressure from edge guys - but doesn't good interior play (Murphy demanding double teams) actually free up and help the edge rushers?

Now the gap play and sealing the edge problems - I agree that's on the edge guys and LBs and not the interior.

Solid analysis to me. Our gap discipline has definitely been an issue especially on the explosive plays. The good news is that it’s fixable. Atlanta is not a great rushing team nor are they a good pass rushing team. I am praying for a get right game this Sunday with some needed extra rest and refocus.

I agree with the core point he raised in the video. The defense is not far away, and they have the talent to be pretty good. There were some minor things, like attributing miscommunication to the coaches, that I disagreed with, but overall, it was an interesting watch.

I imagine there would be a WR or CB they’d be more interested in. Every time.

I just want to point out, I don’t disagree, about the defense, but I personally think the defense can be fixed rather sooner than the offensive line just cause JS and now Mac are more experienced (better) with picking defense than offense.

There are currently less talent on the offensive line than there is the defensive front.

Seattle just continues to need high draft picks and the product on the field will eventually show, hopefully.

Big plays, early and midway through games, have resulted from some mixups and missed assignments, not from underlying structural issues with our defensive plan, or with bad players. Later game issue have been both these issues, and fatigue from not getting stops.

General opinion is that it took 6 months to install this defense in Baltimore, to my eye, it took a full year, but there was a definite change at 6 months, when the linebackers started getting the system down.

I would expect similar ups and downs for our team, and indeed I think we are seeing that, and the lack of depth, causing the troublesome defensive breakdowns. I agree that we aren't far off.

Not to be a spoiler but the guy said something to that effect.

If you take the 4-5 explosives out of the equation, Seattle holds SF to a pretty manageable point total. I know , anyone could say that to an extent for any team but it's just in spots . Limit or eliminate these and they're going to get a lot better results.

I agree, the defense can be fixed this year. I can't see the offensive line getting better with the players they presently have.

Unfortunately, you are right. Fortunately, an improved defense will make the line look better, by taking some of the pressure off of the offense. Due to our defense, our offense has to be one dimensional, and hope to keep up with the score.

If we can lock down opposing offenses, our offense can look more balanced, and defenses won't be able to pin their ears back, making life difficult for our line, and Geno, in the passing game.

It is a long season and it is too early to make conclusions about any players in a new offense and defense systems respectively. This is not a team that is in year 2 or 3 of respective offensive system where you can see yeah these player combos are not going to cut it.

Outside of the obvious lack of talent on OL that the Patriots have the Seahawks are still in good position compared to most NFL teams. Just have to give the young guys more reps and time to develop.

Defensively, the Seahawks have all the pieces necessary and we have seen glimpses of that potential so you have to give it some time.

Something our record doesn't show is that we were in position to win every game we have played despite our shortcomings. The SF "blowout" saw us within one score with less than 2 minutes to play.
Getting injured guys back on the field will make things better for us than they have been recently. Murphy and Reed II can be difference makers.

Well, we have mediocre linebackers.. what should we expect?

This pretty much matches what Mike has said. That the rush defense is either really good, or giving up an explosive play.

Its not as if we are getting rolled on the whole game. We can make stops and do. But we then inexplicably let a run through for a big gain.

The video breakdown shows it clearly - its almost always a matter of one guy playing the play wrong - losing gap discpipline, not getting the depth into the backfield to hold the edge, or some other mental error that extends a drive or results in a score.

that's why the last 3 losses arent signaling the alarm bells in my mind that they would otherwise.

Its fixable. Repetition, repetition, repetetion.

One thing i have noticed quite a bit is opposing offenses seeming to exploit the confusion we have in run fits at the 2nd level by baiting LBs inside and then bouncing runs out. Its something that happened against Pete's defenses too because we tended to be overly aggressive.

Part of the fix might just be for the LBs to slow things down a bit and let the D Line do its job, maintaining leverage and waiting a split second before filling the gap they THINK the runner is going to hit.

Baker has been fooled a few times, being baited inside trying to hit the tackle for no gain, while the runner bounces out and hits the gap he is supposed to maintain.

Brooks often suffered the same lapses, losing outside responsibility because he was tryng to crash inside.

Thing is, if you have a nickelbacker / Safety outside of you to drop down and cover your responsibility, its fine. But on those big runs we have surrendered, that guy wasnt there.
