Gary Gilliam.

Now I'm not saying it's his fault but rather the coaching staff for putting so much stock in a guy with so little experience. I think they expected Gilliam to be a plug and play player on the line and they would build out the line around him. What they found though was that he was not anywhere near that player and were forced to play with a line that had little experience or talent and could not find anyone off the street to come in and take their place. Fact is you can't take an entire group (OL) of inexperienced players and "hope" they can learn on the job. Especially when they are in charge of protecting your top asset. Pete and John were trying again to do something outside the box such as what they did with tall CBs but this time it has come back to bite the team in the ass.

Sorry but IMO the Gilliam project is what started this and now it has become the Achilles heel for our team.

Gilliam was a free agent , I believe.
How about those we drafted ?
Terry Pool, Sokoli last year. Michael Bowie before that ...
There is plenty of O-Linemen who get recycled in/out of the league every year. We just need to grab one or two of them.
But we always focus on cheap guys out of college, that we want to "train". And it fails consistently.
The O-Line has cost us at least 2-3 wins per season. Let's be honest, with 2 more wins this season, we would be challenging for the #1 seed ... instead, we might to be in trouble ...

Now, the RB position has become the next area of very serious concern. Do we regret releasing CM ?

Gilliam said it was disheartening to see the fans leave the stadium early. Don't worry Gary. You won't have that problem next year.

I don't think you can pin it on one player, way too simplistic. This has been a team effort at screwing the pooch. The defense hasn't gotten off the field enough, the entire olines been sloppy from pass protection to the run game to simply penalties, the offense can't seem to get on track consistently and special teams has been a clusterfawk of problems all year. Gilliam didn't make all that happen and he wasn't the impetus to all that happening.

Agree with all that you are saying. My take is that they started experimenting with athletic big guys to become O linemen when they got Gilliam and expected him to be the catalyst for the line to build around. From there the staff kind of went crazy when they kept plugging the same type of player along the OL.

Not at all Gilliams fault but I think he was the piece they were hoping would work out.

You put him out there with four good ol and he has a chance to grow into the position. Our staff chucked him out there with three other guys also learning their positions and one who sucked so bad he has been cut from teams we have to face. Who actually thought this might have a prayer of working? Gary Gilliam is only a symptom of what caused the problems.

Ive been wondering why hasnt Rees Odhiambo get a shot at RT? They trust him enough to come in at LT when Fant gets hurt, but not to play RT at all?

The only guy who hasn't been a regular turnstile is Britt. The rest are just not that good, including our first-rounder.

They released CM because he lacked the ability to learn the plays. His issues were between his ears. He had been given years to correct it, but never got it. I would guess he has severe ADD or ADHD by the way he gets so confused on play calls he has been able to study for years.

Gilliam and sowell are equally trash. The interior is physically pretty sound, but miss quite a few assignments they shouldn't miss. They have had a lot of games to get their communication and assignments correct, and still really don't get it done. Much of this I would think is on cable. I don't know if he complicates it too much, or just isn't good at teaching it, but it is pretty bad.

Oh, and fire Bevell.

All our troubles disappear if we make a few very makeable field goals. Most teams make field goals with consistency. Can you ever remember a year where we missed or had them blocked like this year? Keep everything else the same and we win 3 more games if we could just make a freakin' field goal!

My scapegoat the long snapper!

The whole thing just seems off this year.

But to name a few:

Webb / Sowell experiment
Bevell / Cable / Richard
Haushka
Injuries. All of them
Lack of Depth
etc...............
