I came in on this game when it was 6-3 in the 2nd and Seattle was 5-6 with RISP. They went 1-10 with RISP for the entire time that I was watching, and the 1 hit they got didn't score anything. I don't even remember seeing it. So yeah it's my fault. Sorry guys. This has been happening to me a lot lately.

Other than the Mariners continuing to be chokers with RISP, this game was awesome. Felix pitched MUCH better than his 4 ER would suggest. He got off to a bad start but after Trout crushed that HR Felix cruised. The other HR Felix gave up was on a curve ball out of the strike zone that a batter with 5 HRs on the season got lucky on a golf swing with.

Diaz was electric. Dave Sims nickname for Diaz- "Electric Eddy" - fits the bill. Not only did Diaz strike out the side, but none of the hitters even touched the ball once. Not once! And this was against the heart of the order. Sick!

Diaz tonight reminded me of Felix circa 2006. Back when he first entered the league and he had Bugs Bunny stuff. Mike Trout is one of the best hitters in the modern era, and he was completely helpless against Diaz. He looked at his dugout after that strikeout with a look that said "what am I supposed to do against that?"

Loved it.

Just for one night, I'm actually glad the Mariners bats kept this game closer than it should have been. That ninth inning just wouldn't have been as special in an 8-4 kind of game.

Zunino's at bats have been impressive since being called up. No more three swings and misses. Something positive

Not that I would expect him to play this good over a full season, but coming into tonight he was on an 8 WAR type of pace if you prorated his performance over a 130 game sample.

His K's are down only slightly, but his triple slash line speaks for itself. .263 / .391 / .737. It's probably just a hot streak, but still, it's one of the more impressive hot streaks by any Mariners batter this season.

7 teams in the A.L. Wild Card race right now. There's still a chance... phenomenal bottom of the 1st inning, and top of the 9th! Lincecum looks awful.

If the M's want to make a run this is the time to do it. They made it through the really tough part of the schedule and now have some favorable games for the month of August:

3 games vs Angels (already up 1-0)
3 games vs Detroit (big series as they are in the WC race)
3 games @ Oakland (winnable)
4 games @ Angels (winnable)
3 games vs Milwaukee (winnable)
3 games vs NYY (winnable)
4 games @ White Sox (winnable)
3 games @ Texas

The only playoff teams we will be playing in the month of August are the Rangers and possibly the Tigers (unfortunately we will have to face both of the Tigers premier pitchers in Fulmer and Verlander). Other than that, we are playing non-playoff teams. With 25 games remaining in the month of August, if they can go something like 15-10 that would put us in a position to make a WC run. But realistically, I think they need to catch fire and try for 16-9 or 17-8. I still think it will take about 88-89 wins to make the WC. So if we can put ourselves about 10 or 11 games above .500 going into August we will very much have a shot. But we have to get hot now while the schedule is favorable. I'm hoping all these AL East teams will wear each other down and keep us in the race.

And just like that Lincecum designated for assignment. It's pretty crazy how fast and far sports athletes can fall (RG3, Derrick Rose, Percy Harvin...the list goes on).

Well if they are to make a run "It's now time!". They need to consistently score more runs, need solid staring pitching including Good Felix (the guy that pitched innings 2-8 yesterday) and not bad Felix that pitched in the 1st inning. They need the pen to be solid, play solid to good defense, and "Fast Eddie" to keep hitters looking like fools with his 100+ mph fastball.

Once Timmy lost velocity on his fastball it's been downhill. Not sure he is a starter anymore.
I'm a UW fan and have always rooted for him, not sure he can survive at the MLB level, sadly.

Trout with another 3-run homer in the first inning.

Win one lose one win one lose one win one lose one. Get the point? At this rate, this team will finish the year 81-81.

Out here
Man, O'Malley has been so impressive the last couple of weeks. Not a knock on Marte being out, but I'm glad Shawn is getting his opportunity. At this point, I'd like to see him continue to start at SS. He's a great fielder and his hitting is really picking up. He's giving us more than Marte had been. Marte should spend some time in Tacoma to develop his game more. His fielding is Brad Millerish.....just inconsistent. And his hitting took a dive from last year. Plus, he's proving to be a fragile little fella.

I'm pretty sure that when it's all said and done we'll view Shawn O'Malley as Willie Bloomquist 2.0, but the hot streak of his as of late is certainly helping the Mariners win some ballgames.

Everything I said about Walker before the season came true, and it sucks. The evidence continues to mount that he's a good thrower, but not a good pitcher.

I love how having Diaz as our closer completely changes the feel of this baseball team. Suddenly the Mariners feel like winners again. Down 3-0 and 6-2 the past two days, never seemed to panic and always believed.

Another come from behind win?! This team sure makes you think it will go on a hot streak any week now.

Go for the sweep tomorrow, then a huge series against the Tigers with wildcard on everyone's mind.

Also: that was one hell of a who's-who of Seattle sports stars out there during Griffey's jersey retirement ceremony. That was beyond cool to see.

Walker in my opinion does pretty well when healthy but he has not been for about 3 months.I think he probaly is done for the year unless he goes to the pen.I noticed there was a trade with the Pirates(not sure who's going)I don't even know the guys we got.As for the game it's nice to see Cody hold the Angels for a couple while the offense came back and Diaz gets the save.I see it was KG number retired night,I hope there was a full house for that and seeing this team fight back in another game so the season still lives on.

He might still put it together, but even when healthy he's a hard pitcher to trust.

I agree on Walker. Not healthy enough and not consistent enough. You never know what you're going to get from him.
