The bad news, M's only have 3 hits in 7 innings.

The good news, the Sox are scoreless so far, and all three of our hits left the yard.

3-0 Top of the ninth. Diaz time.

K'd Ortiz on 3 pitches. :D

Oops. Base hit and hit batter. And a wild pitch. :(

Tough outing, almost Cishek-like. :34853_doh:

But he got the save. Only gave up 1 run. Nice recovery. :2thumbs:

He has the ability to pitch out of jams. He's young - I'm sure our coaches will direct him to not get too cute up there with a 3 run lead. Just throw strikes, keep them down & in - at 99mph+, he is almost unhittable if he keeps it over the plate.

Good win. Lots of teams in the wildcard hunt.

He's young. Just needs to learn to settle down and be himself.

This shows you exactly why it's so rare for rookies (particularly those who are mid-season callups) to close games. They have so much pressure on their shoulders just playing in normal game situations, and closing for a semi-contending team magnifies that pressure even more.

Diaz was amped and trying too hard tonight. I'm going to hope that's all it is and that he relaxes a bit because he seems to have the confidence and he definitely has the ability.

All the same, seeing Diaz electrify those home crowds has breathed life into everyone. He's got me believing again.

This is back to back games that the Mariners didn't have any business winning (offensively) through the first several innings. Really awesome to see the pitching put the team on its shoulders for what feels like the first time all season.

Seeing Kumo has been pitching well and if Pax,Felix and Walker all get going who knows what could happen we are only 6 out in division correct?I hope the Cuban pulls a nice suprise tonight.I love Diaz closing it's been a long time since we had a guy like him if ever.

Lose one, win one, lose one, win one. You get the point?

This team just can't put any kind of streak together. I still think you need to end up about 12-15 games above .500 for the last WC spot, I just don't see us getting there. I know 5 games back of the WC doesn't sound like much, but this team gives me no reason for me to think they can go on a winning streak.

On a side note, the Astros are going through a big slump. Looks like Texas will run away with the division now. I thought the Astros made a big mistake by doing nothing at the trade deadline.

OTOH, a split against the best offensive team in the AL ain't hay IMHO. ;)

Last night's loss was about as easy to take as any 1 run loss could be. Seattle had no business hanging in that game, but they forced extras and made it interesting. It was going to be a night off for our new closer anyway, so good timing for a loss like that.

I'm a bit concerned about our offense. It's an old offense, and it hasn't been very good since the all-star break. Hopefully it is just a slump, and not a sign of age-related fatigue.

Definitely an optimistic way to look at it. I just looked it up, and we are 9-9 since the all-star break. We are the definition of a .500 ball club.

Just gonna leave this here, but Felix ain't Felix anymore.

If we aren't going to win by next year, might as well ship him off.

I endorse this. We started to witness his decline by the middle of last year. He's done.

Zunino's at bats have been impressive since being called up. No more three swings and misses. Something positive

I wouldn't go as far as saying he is done. But his trade value is still high as he is still seen as an ace. He hasn't been completely exposed, as shown by his ERA which is still very respectable (mid 3's). But if this continues through next year, the jury will be out on Felix and he won't warrant much in a trade.

Right now I think we could get a lot in return for Felix. I think he is probably more of a #2 than a true #1, but the key is to optimize his trade value. However, if Dipoto thinks we can win by next year, then keep him. But if he doesn't, no point in keeping Felix because I wouldn't count on him to be anything more than a solid #2 in a couple years.

Interesting game. Felix settled in and pitched a gem after the early problems. Diaz with another save. :2thumbs:

Offense left too many runs out there. Nice answer to the early runs that Cal scored, but not scoring after the first really sucked. We should have padded that lead.

Diaz is Filthy McNasty, making the heart of the Halo's line up look like Timmy Lupus and Rudy Stein up there. :2thumbs:
