Starting pitching of late has been stunningly bad. That needs to improve in a hurry.

If the playoffs were to start tomorrow, the only guy I'd feel comfortable starting would be Felix.

Karns struggling in the 1st inning. Seems like every game it is a different pitcher struggling from the first inning on.

What the hell is this team doing!? Do they not realize the position they're in? Just pissing first place goodbye. At what point does Mel Stottlemyre become accountable? This pitching group is awful. Just awful. And it's not just one. All 5 starters. Paxton. Peralta.....I knew the hot start to the season was too good to be true. This is like Silva baseball all over again. These fools make Carlos look like a perennial all star.

It's early June, while frustrating to watch, it's a marathon not a sprint.
I would like to see it turned around ASAP though.

Romero doing a Chris Taylor impression. Just got punked like he was still in LL. He then craps the bed to halt another RBI.

Yep, I was just about to say something along those lines. Embarrassing and probably cost you the game (bottom 8 as I type this)

Romero is such a waste. He'll never amount to anything as a big leaguer. With Ketel coming back this week, this should be the end of this stint for Stefen. And in all honesty, when Martin comes back, I really hope they decide to keep O'Malley over Sardinas. That's if they decide not to call up another arm. At least O'Malley can play infield and outfield.

Should help that Marte is back tonight but Paxton needs to get it together or we'll lose 4 straight. Really need Martin back as well.

I feel some of the runs were just bad defense rather than pitching so hopefully we don't give away as many as we have been.

Well, two of their 3 runs were unearned, so that is a safe assumption. :)

Seething over the fact they get Marte back and he throws a strike to tag a runner out at home and Ianetta can't catch the ball and the runner scores and the base runner moves up to third and eventualy score. Ianetta can't hit a lick and now can't field a ball. Paxton pitching well and gets no help.

Paxton doing well tonight. Marte is rusty. Frustrating we've committed so many errors lately

Trevor Bauer is a solid pitcher, roughly of the same caliber as Nate Karns. Still, last night was by far his best outing of the season. Previously he had allowed 3 runs or more in six of his previous nine starts. Last night was not only his season high for strikeouts, but was only the 2nd time all year he walked less than 2 batters.

I take nothing away from Bauer, but I put last night's loss on the Mariners batters for swinging too much out of the zone, especially early in counts which allowed Baurer to go 7+ innings. I know it's tough against better pitchers, but our hitters need to stay patient and battle even against good strikeout pitchers. That way even if they get shut down, they can at least force their way into the bullpen by the sixth inning.

Granted, Seattle might still have won anyway if Seth Smith was just 1% stronger on his swing. But that's baseball.

Yep. We've only given up 1 earned run in each of the past 2 games and still lost. Defense is letting us down right now.

Kinda feels like almost everyone is in a bit of a slump at the plate right now as well. Well, since the Padres series.

On the bright side, Diaz looked dominant. Right out of the gate he is looking like one of the 10 best relievers in baseball. I think I'd have to go back to a young Rafael Soriano to think of the last time we had a reliever with that kind of electric stuff.

Diaz is so good that he has a chance to be worth more WAR than some of our starters.

Yes! That was as awesome debut for Diaz. Very excited for this kid.

I was really hoping that his performance was going to provide a spark for our offense. Alas, it was not to be.

The big 1-2 punch of Clevenger and O'Malley!

We really lucked out with Danny Salazar getting scratched. He is one of the great young arms in MLB.

If Walker struggles tonight and Paxton has another good outing next game, i'd seriously consider moving Walker down for a spell when Hernandez comes back.
