As SeatownJay says, the Mariners BA with RISP is now all the way up to .271, which ranks 10th.

Hopefully this is a trend and not just a blip on the radar after a massive outlier performance. Though for what it's worth, the Mariners are even better, ranked 4th, in OPS with RISP.

They also rank 4th in OPS in all batting situations and have scored the 4th most runs in baseball.

But my favorite stat I woke up to this morning is this: The Mariners are now all the way up to a .294 BABIP, just a hair below the league average. It was only a month ago that the Mariners were on pace to be the worst BABIP team in Major League history.

You could sense earlier in the year that the Mariners offense was very good but getting royally screwed by extreme bad luck. Now that their luck is finally normalized, they have a top five offense in baseball.

Unfortunately, right as this is happening the Mariners pitching is starting to fall apart. Miley was never a great pitcher but he's been a disaster so far, and while Felix hasn't been Felix, his depleted version is still way better than James Paxton. The Mariners don't have much to trade away but they need to trade for starting pitching help NOW.

If they want someone who's actually good now and also a future asset, the Rays have several good pitchers on the trade block, though I'm not sure if Seattle has enough minor league ammunition to get them.

Saw a stat this morning that before the game Seattle was 16th in MLB in BA with runners in scoring position at .252. After going 11/12 last night they are now 10th at .271.

I know we're not supposed to put much stock into the onscreen tracker thingie, but there have been some seriously questionable calls being made by umpires, too. I suppose it balances out, but last night was a prime example on the last (almost and should have been) pitch of the game. Cishek tossed a gem, well within the zone, even Iannetta was up and walking out to congratulate Cishek, but the ump called it a ball. :34853_doh: One good sign is that kind of crap used to cost us games by leading to an opposition rally. At least Cishek finished the guy off. But damn.

I see rumors that Edwin Diaz will be called up from AA Jackson next week. A bit of a gamble given that there is a gap between AA and major league but he's apparently been lights out down there.

I've been thinking the tracker thingy has been seriously maladjusted and needs recalibration. I can't remember seeing worse calls this season on both sides of the plate.

They recently converted Diaz to a reliever. I hope the rumors are false as I don't think it's very smart to hustle him to the Majors as an act of desperation, it would make far more sense to simply trade for a league average or better veteran.

The Mariners don't need the next David Price, just find another Nate Karns or Doug Fister or Jason Vargas. It's easier said that done but these types of buy low pitchers are out there if you know where to look.

It's a bit of a crapshoot though. For every Chris Young, someone will come in and suck.

If we do make trades in the future at the deadline, do we trade Zunino? What would we get for him. Tearing it up in AAA, at the major league he couldn't hit but was good defensively. If he could hit even average he could be good.

Dae-Ho Lee has earned and deserves more playing time. He has been extremely good and has much power.
Lee is batting .301, Seager is at .295 (he was under .200 for large part beginning of the season), Cruz is at .298, and Cano is at .293. With those guys hitting the way they are, runs should be aplenty. Can't complain too much about offense unless Felix is pitching, then it disappears.

Rough start for Taijuan. He had a real rough May, looks like not much is different for June. I really hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see him panning out to be the great player we have all hoped for.

Yeah the way he started the year it looked like he'd turned the corner. Now, not so much I'm afraid.

And I'm with HawkLock, I think this team needs to make a move for a quality starter.

Yeah, count me in. It's been evident how weak the rotation has been in the last two weeks or so. Dipoto can't afford for these fools to keep trotting out there only to dig the team into a bad hole by the 4th. Who would you go after? What would you give up?

Should have traded Walker last season while he still had value. He's eroding whatever value he has left...which is not much.

Good move. Can he start? Or will he be used in the pen? Kraig Sitton is also really intriguing. If he keeps pitching like he has in Ttown, I'll be excited if he gets called up. Can prospects only be called up from Tacoma? Art Warren has been unbelievable as a starter for high A Clinton. Would he have to be promoted to Tacoma before being called up?

Looks like he is a reliever now. Used to be a SP but they converted him in early May.

As Glasgow mentioned above, sadly it's gonna be tough cuz Ms have little in the minor league system to offer. A fade from this point forward because of starting pitching is a possibility I'm afraid.

I just did a little research on the internet for which starting pitchers will likely be available at the trade deadline. The two names that come up constantly are Rich Hill and Julio Teheran. If we got either, I think both would become our #2. The only thing is there will be a lot of teams looking for starting pitching at the deadline.

Starting pitching of late has been stunningly bad. That needs to improve in a hurry.
