If Gus leaves for a HC job, do you think Lovie Smith would ever accept a DC postion? That would be an outstanding pickup.

Maybe if he gets shut out for all the head coaching jobs. I assume he'd rather be a DC than sit out a year. It'd be hard to build continuity with him though, because he'd likely be gone after one season, unless he sucked.

I like the idea of one of the DB coaches taking over. Seto was supposed to be DC at UCLA but luckt for him it fell apart. He seems to be in the background though.

Chris Richard (sp) is more in forefront and seems like he is a very good coach and communicator from what I see. I see him as a HC one day.

Isn't the defense of Pete Carroll's design? Wouldn't you want a coordinator familiar with our particular brand of giant DE style? I assume Lovie would want to install his own scheme.

I would expect Norton to get it too. Any reasons why he wouldn't be the natural pick there?

The problem with having any of our assistant coaches taking over DC except for Cable is we have no idea if they are scheme guys. Meaning they can coach individual positions but what experience do they have at devising schemes. Cable is the only guy that I know of on staff that has actually schemed at the NFL level. I just don't know.

It irritates me, but Lovie is getting tons of interviews, but it feels like a bunch of them are Rooney Rule interviews because they all have him in and out he goes. No way in heck that guy interviews poorly. He is a GREAT football mind. I am sure he would blow away any GM that interviewed him seriously and picked his brain. He knows weaknesses on every team's offense and defense. It's obvious. He has put together some of the best defensive gameplans I've ever seen.

I'd LOVE to have him and Cable each as assistant head coaches and each running one side of the ball. I think we'd have the toughest coaching staff in football. Pete would be the perfect balance between those guys as he's mellow and funny and they are both locked in, serious coaches. It's a nice idea for sure.

I don't see him being our DC, we have a group of in house guys and Pete to mentor them if necessary. Too much money for a DC when we have people here.

Well if Bradley leaves how many position coaches does he take with him, Norton, Richard maybe. Thats three guys gone, now we have three guys to replace. Same for Bevell on offense. Thats the domino effect that can really screw a franchise.

Petes building something special here. I dont see why any coach would want to leave unless they got a promotion, as in position coach to coordinator or coordinator to Head Coach.

And you're looking to far into it. NFL teams cherry pick off of New England all the time and New England is consistently a top team. As long as we got PC and JS at the top, Im not too worried.

Play calling and teaching technique on ways to play a position isn't something you take for granted, our linebackers and DB's have been able to step in and play because those two guys can teach the position and succeed at it. So I think that Pete can fix the world mentality is a stupid position to take. Pete is as good as his staff is. How great was the line playing till Cable came in is a good example. Cable can teach the positions and technique. But using your thought process we can just plug in and let some other guy do it I suppose. They are growing on trees I guess.

I would expect our FO to treat our coaching positions like they do our roster and build from within to maximize longevity
My vote is for Norton Jr. if Bradley leaves
And I think Schneider is savvy enough to know he needs to let these guys go through with interviews so they don't feel like they are being controlled but can still talk them into staying because of what we have going here

Not sure I would want Smith. How much is he committed to the Cover(Tampa)-2? I would want a DC that remains an advocate to our single high/Press Corners look. I don't think Lovie is that way, but again I don't watch a lot of the Bears to know.

I don't see Norton leaving soon. Pete gave him a job when no one else would.
