Has Seattle ever had a fan favorite like him? He should have played his whole career here.

If this is a cut instead of a trade, I'm done with this FO.

What does this even mean? Really and practically speaking?

Must be a 2012 Twelve. :smilingalien: :D :2thumbs:

Steve Largent
Cortez Kennedy
Kenny Easley
Walter Jones *yeah a linemen but he was great
Shaun Alexander

I'd say at least two of those guys were as loved by Seahawks fans. You young whippersnappers just don't appreciate the olden days.

Probably the most relevant take in the thread.

I thought they may discuss an extension at a reduced rate.

Sherm is so prideful, with such an ego, and representing himself. You know he is not going to accept less than top dollar. I’d be surprised if he got more on the open market though. Who knows.

I think he will come back fine from his ACL. It would be a waste to outright cut him over a few million savings (appreciate it might be about more than the money, too).

It means I'll stop defending them against their critics and won't mourn them when they're gone.

And I appreciate your interest in my feelings.

$11M savings in 2018 is more than a few mil.

If Sherman is cut that's going to tough to handle from the emotional fan side of me. If it happens I would hope sooo hard that he doesn't end up with the Niners or the Packers etc. That would really be hard to take.

I'm a 33 year old man, but thanks for being condescending.

This fan base tossed Shaun aside after XL and whose mom ever loved Kennedy like they love Sherman? Football fans loved those players; everyone loves Sherman.

You old folks appreciate the old days too much.

What is the point of a rebuild?

Carroll has at most 3-4 years left as a coach.

So rebuild for 1-2 years and then lose the coach to start from zero?

Have you seen the coaches Carroll leaves in place as his succession plan? Ask USC

The idea this team can retool with new players is laughable anyway. Carroll is a tremendous scout and talent development guy but he is a pretty middling X & Os guy. And he has tremendously spotty record in being able to identify good assistants.

So if you get rid of the players what the hell do you even have?

This team needed to milk its stars for all they were worth because there is no reload on the horizon, just a return to the type of football that most Seahawk fans were hoping never returned. Wilson isn't going to carry this team on his back, he needs help.

You don't help him by gutting your defense when your offense is a joke. Or hiring a re-tread never-was/never-will-be as your OC.

I give up.

Maybe Sherman deserves better than whatever this team is becoming but the fans sure as hell don't deserve this.

This isn't talking trash. This is making fun of a young whippersnapper who doesn't appreciate his teams history. We have them too.

You're very welcome.

But I doubt they need any defending. I fail to see how this one still-hypothetical cut could be so important to their legacy.

Since much may happen with this team to change your mind between now and the time Pete and John actually leave, projecting out that far seems strange...

The Sherm and Bennett act may have really worn thin with the team. It would be understandable.
But, it's not official, yet.

This has nothing to little to do with their "act"

I would imagine both are considered leaders in the locker room, as well as across the landscape of NFL players.

The Bennett move and the potential Sherman move are (mostly) about age, health and productivity..

Whenever Sherm decides to leave the Hawks, I believe that he will be a candidate for the Ring of Honor. Can't say the same for Bennett.

Disagree. We save just $2M by trading Bennett for a pro bowl caliber DE.

That is 100% making us a worse team for that price. It is about buying in and "silencing the noise". Pete all but said that himself.

Only in the sense that I hope the 49ers sign Sherman. He's the absolute prototype for the position in this scheme. The truth is, Michael Bennett isn't what he once was, and Frank Clark will probably do quite well making up for the loss in pass rush. As for Sherman, as long as they still have their safeties, the secondary is still going to be good. On offense, if they, for instance, sign Carlos Hyde, and upgrade the o-line, they'll still be contenders because of Wilson.

So, the news of the demise of the Seahawks is greatly exaggerated.

Bennett belongs in the Ring of Honor, for sure.

Super Bowl champion. Three-time Pro Bowler. Led the team in sacks and pressure for several years. Man of the Year nominee.
