Our CAP is not good for this year, better for next. But we can still play it right.
We can make a couple more moves to be in the top 5-7 in cap space this year. Not done. Next year as of right now after todays moves we have $180 million in cap next year.

Yep. They paid a JAG like he was an All Pro. This will probably make Schneider that much more hesitant to spend in FA.
May be not, so long that was a Pete Carroll signing or Schneider's convinced that it was a Pete Carroll signing.

Maybe he was JAG but he wasn't paid anything near an All-Pro salary - there are 25 players on D-line with a $17m plus APY, 24 of them paid more than Jones was.

Unfortunately that's the nature of the position now, you need to pay a lot to get even reasonable talent.

Maybe not at an All-Pro level but to say he was the 25th highest paid out of all the starting defensive linemen in the league still puts him at a pretty high level. Also, he was worse than a JAG. He was ranked 97th (out of 119 players) at his position by PFF. By comparison, Jarran Reed, a pretty decent player (ranked 21st), was paid $4.5 million. No matter how you look at it, $17 million was way too much for Dre'mont Jones.

Not well versed in the cap, but I thought a Geno cut/trade would clear 30M in cap room. Conversely, a DK trade would net 11M. Maybe someone could confirm.
If we are at +33M right now, Geno/DK savings (41M) would put us at 74M cap surplus.
That would fill a lot of holes and extend most of our good young players.
There is $13M in dead money relating to Smith that is going to be accounted for this year. That $13M is set in stone. Smith is due $31M in salary and roster bonuses this season. If traded or cut that is the figure that would come off the Seahawks cap figure. There is $13.895M in dead money relating to Lockett. That is also set in stone. Cutting Lockett saves the $17M he is due in 2025, but it has to be done before the roster bonus is due on March 16. Metcalf is due $18M so cutting/trading would save that amount. However, cutting/trading Metcalf before the Jun 1 date would accelerate $7.125M from the 2026 cap into the 2025 cap. It would still save $18M, but you wouldn't see it all this year.

I really suspect the team and Lockett may find some basis to stay together for another couple of seasons. Maybe just wishful thinking but I hope not.
If I was GM, I would give him the leeway to go elsewhere, or finish his career here. He still has value, but not at such a high cost.

It’s clear the renegotiation with TL went nowhere, he’s now gone. Soon the same will be the case with DK. There will be others.

Time to really open up the cap and release Geno. He’s not worth the salary he to be paid for this season.

It’s time to quit dancing around this. Time to create a younger but competitive team.

I agree.

Why the hell should we extend Geno and pay him with the only pass game option is JSN?!

Might as well start to rebuild this thing right from the trenches and do it the right way.

There is no reason to pay Geno, cause if you do, JSN, will be an easy game plan for defensive coordinators and Seattle will be bottlenecked with the run game.

No threat with DK means teams eyeing JSN and stopping the run equals Geno sucking even more. Guaranteed!

Rebuild, right now and do not extend Geno!
