Great hype when he came over in the big Denver trade. Now, looks like another JS misfire.
Nah, he was part of the fleecing of Denver. Meh. Plus, they saved over 8 mil. Not a misfire at all, it's a great move. I'm sure they tried to trade him, nobody was going to touch that salary. Keeping him in 2025 at that number? That would be a misfire, imo.

Our Miller was one of my all-time favorite Hawks. Dude was solid, and one hell of a blocker.
Yep. IMO the best all-around tight end ever to wear the blue and green. Fantastic blocker, great hands, was a security blanket for a young Russell Wilson. Too bad he couldn't stay healthy.

And on the flip side of the tight end coin, there was Jimmy Graham, arguably the most out of place acquisition we made during Pete's tenue.

I was expecting this move to happen for a while now. Kubiak's Wide Zone needs TEs that can do it all. A Kittle-type if you will. Fant just isn't that. His blocking skills were meh and his catching skills were okay. But he never seemed to live up to the hype he had in Denver. I blame a lot of that on Carroll and on Grubb. Now, we have several young TEs and still one Vet TE on the team. Let us not forget, Outz and Brady Russell are TEs. They may be learning FB, but you can use them anyway you like when they're on the field.

Like most in here, I didn't see this one coming. We don't have a problem with cap space as we're currently at $28.7M under, 10th most in the league. That's plenty of room for a contingency fund, so unless we have something big in mind, this can't be considered a cap casualty.

Additionally, there are now just 3 TE's in the room: A 1-year vet who started in just 6 games, a rookie draft pick, and a journeyman. That, too, makes this move even more of a head scratcher.

All I can think of is that since Fant is not a very good blocking tight end, and since our rookie draft pick isn't noted for his inline blocking, either, that it's another sign that we're trying to become a run-first offense, which made Fant expendable.

We do have two UDFA TEs as well who we have had time to look at so there are 5 in the room with Fant gone.

Fant was a PeteCarroll reach and was never healthy

Never healthy? He played in 48 out of 51 games while he was here.

Pete Carroll reach? Ridiculous. He was part of the fleecing we did to Denver with the Wilson trade. Everything we got over and above the draft picks was purely gravy.

One guy on the Bears board wants to trade Kmet to the Seahawks. He’s a good TE, but Ben likes to run plays with two TEs, so not likely to happen, unless the offer is really good.

Anything bad, trades, drafts, was Pete Carroll's fault.

He was still never healthy fully but at the end of the day JS has orchestrated a beautiful young roster. Elijah Arroyo is a freak

Colby Parkinson is probably going to get cut. He could be a nice number 3 TE if we could get him on a team friendly 1-2 year deal but nothing close to the 10M/yr the rams gave him.

There was nothing bad about the Fant acquisition. If you want to point a finger point it at the fact that we had to continuously use blocking TEs because we couldn’t get an Oline to do their job well. Fant might have had an opportunity to prove his worth as a pass catching TE but we weren’t built for it and now we have positional talent there for less money.

Your sir might have just nailed it.

Exactly! Fant was part of a huge package Denver gave up that included a starting DT (Shelby Harris), a starting TE and former first round pick (Fant), a former starting QB and former 2nd round pick (Drew Lock), and 4 draft picks, including two first rounders and a 2nd rounder. "Fleecing" is a gross understatement.

Anything we got out of Fant...and he was a solid performer for 3 seasons...was frosting on the cake. That was by far the biggest and best trade that PC/JS ever made, especially in retrospect with the way Wilson's career has gone.

Denver traded Fant away b/c they knew he wasn't a good player and worth his draft slot. The Hawks needed a TE but realistically one who could block and Fant sucked at blocking and wasn't really that good at pass catching either. Good riddance, thanks for your time here, you did get paid well for doing not very much. C-ya.

Happy to see this player gone, he was always overrated.

The team has a group of tough young players at the TE position all of whom can block, one will rise above the rest, am betting on Barner to be special and Arroyo to be a weapon.
