Came across this very early depth chart. Expecting to see a lot of very solid WR depth across the league it sure looks to me that outside of Atlanta and Denver there are only a couple teams that have clear and significant advantages in their WR position.

Baldwin is steady as a rock, Harvin is the super star, Kearse is going to be a very good receiver and Lockett is my question mark.

Quite a few teams have pretty good WR corps. None of them won a ring last year.

Great WRs usually cost a lot of money. Than you gotta pay your franchise QB. Suddenly 40% of your cap is spent on two players.

Than if you want a good #2 and #3, you are paying even more money at a premium. Suddenly the rest of your team is the Denver Broncos.

Give me an elite defense and a good quarterback any day over an elite quarterback with really good WRs

I am really hoping that Kearse works into things more and builds on the rapport he is getting with Wilson. His improvement and use could be a huge factor to a team that throws the ball like Seattle. A few more catches per game and he is money.

A few more catches per game and he's a mismatch, and then what are defenses going to do ?

Baldwin has the best chemistry with Russ.
Harvin has the most talent and athletic ability.
Kearse has a lot of potential and has size the other 2 don't.
I think Lockette has hit his ceiling, but in this vertical offense, he can still find a niche and become more productive. He's also a ST demon.

We really need a bigger red zone threat, but that's about all we're lacking. If Willson improves, then we really might be fine in the red zone anyways, but if you look at last year, we really missed a big red zone target on the outside (too many FG's).

Kearse is only "good"?

I'd say he's a notch or so above that.

I think we stack up pretty well, but I'd agree the Colts are sitting damn well. That Hilton character is a few notches above good. Fast and fearless, he is, and seems to hold-together well after the tackles.

It is hard to feel too confident about things until Percy has a few complete games with unscathed performance. I think with the way he was brought back like he was, the outlook could be better than we expect.

That depth chart scares the crap out of me.... the only thing that brings me some peace is that if a WR goes down, we can use 3 TE sets (well, that and the draft of course)... but as it stands there are numerous teams listed there I'd take over ours.... keep in mind we have russell throwing and lynch keeping the box stacked compared to a team like the titans or browns.

still hoping we can get a bargain deal to bring Rice back. injury issues aside It couldnt hurt to have a tall target Wilson is familiar with.

Oh, puh-lease. Did you watch the Super Bowl? Was there any indication that our WR corps was anything less than very good?

Wait and see what happens at the end of the preseason. We'll have at least three of our receivers, who didn't make the cut for us, picked up by other teams.

That + Drafting a RZ threat type WR (Jurevicious keeps popping in my mind), and I'd feel pretty comfortable with Harvin/Rice/Baldwin/Kearse/rookie/Lockette (dude was murdering people on ST as a gunner)

well we only had 13 receptions by receivers for 167 yards against a team with a bad and beat up secondary. Not saying I don't love our guys but its as easy to overvalue them as it is to undervalue them.

One team with receivers i really like is actually..jacksonville. if blackmon can stay out of prison and the jags can get a good QB in there he'll be set up with some good young talent that won't be overpaid due to being on a bad team in Blackmon/Shorts/Sanders.

Depth chart doesn't even mention Chris Matthews, the 6'5" CFL Rookie of the Year.

I know it's only the CFL, but he has the size for a red zone target, and I'd place him above Walters and Clark on the chart. Perhaps even above Lockette when talking about WR potential, since Lockette is primarily a ST guy.

No but there was plenty of indication that the broncos secondary/pass rush was terrible.

And what's your point on the second part? You act as if we've never picked up a guy off waivers.

Harvin is spectacular but not dependable, and we've yet to really see how he will integrate into our offense full time. Baldwin is steady. Kearse is a #4 with big play ability. The rest of the WR corp is pretty much below average, including Lockette. My hope is that after the draft and FA at least two guys, at least one a big guy, will step up, but that's a lot to hope for.

Did Rice ever resign?

The Seahawks Secondary pretty much neutralized any perceived advantage that the vaunted Denver Bronco's showcased at Super Bowl XLVIII.

Both statements are true. But the stats don't tell the story, the tape does.
