A lot of fans WAY overvalue mid round draft picks, imo. I'm more than happy to trade a 4th and a 5th for a guy that is statistically a top 20-25 WR in the league right now.
I was assured that we could never find anyone good in the first round and it was allllll a crapshoot and expect nothing good because JS does his best work in the later rounds … that we traded away.

It’s not the player it’s the draft picks, contract and leverage. I don’t dislike the player or position.

This is not a DK replacement He can play outside, but his length and speed if his leg is sound is more of a guy that works with agility. Quick hitters, screens, and go routes when those get a CB, Safety, or slot guy to come up on him or they play a man. Horton is the guys with Length and speed. I can this guy working in the slot, wide out, in the backfield. You can package him with any personal group in some position.

I was hoping for a RG, but even if we don't re-sign the dude, this is a very good trade. It is a reasonable win now move. He is a dangerous KR dude. He is a veteran burner. He is insurance in case we have even more injuries. I just hope Kupp's contract was structured so that we can get out of it without taking to bad of a hit. I like Cooper but he is probably one and done with us.

It's a steep price for a rental at a position we don't need. Sure, we aren't forced to re-sign him, but it looks like a foolish trade if we don't, or if he doesn't perform at a level where we'd want him back.
Why not use one of those picks to trade for an upgrade at C or RG, and the other pick to bolster the WR group?

Too much risk, not enough reward.

First of all, it is a position of need. The Seahawks are really thin at WR, and this trade provides some needed depth.

Second, if we could have gotten a center or a guard, that would have been great, and I'm sure Schneider would have done it if he could. (As I type this, the trade deadline has just passed, so it looks like there's not going to be any O-line help coming.) I think Schneider would have given more than a 4th and 5th for an O-line upgrade, as would many other teams.

This is probably a Kubiak ask. He knows the guy and what he can do in his system and probably told JS and MM he'd like to get him in here if he can.
And Kubiak probably wouldn't want him here if he was some hothead that disrupts the locker room. Been hearing a lot of good, no bad comments so far, except from peeps that I know are trolling. ;)

I like this trade. It's not what I would have preferred but Shaheed is a very good player. Much better than MVS. I would have rather they addressed the LB concerns with Jones potentially being out or the RG position as in my mind there is less depth and bigger needs there. Not upset as they did get a solid player.

I absolutely love this trade. He has 11 TDs over 40 yards (third most in league just behind Tyreek and Jamar), so will force deep safety looks and teams can’t just stack the box / continuously double JSN. I’m ok with the comp too; aim seems to be to sign him (which given he is coming from NO to a potentially deep playoff run I imagine he would be open too) and if not we get back one of those picks as a comp pick.
Let’s ******* go!

I took no LB deal as a sign Jones knee won't keep him out very long at all. I know we don't know if they were active or not but I take no deal as a good sign for Jones.

I trust this FO more than any we’ve had.

Is this better than a decent Guard or LB? My guess is no. But, who was available in comparison for what we paid?

I assume we’re going to get his contract worked out and/or re-sign as soon as we can. Until then, I’d still give this a C grade. Definite B, B+ when/if that contract is worked out.

That’s not a bad grade at all. Just a surprise…and folks, what we gave up for him…wasn’t that expensive at all. If he becomes and stays a starter, JS worked his ‘I’ll F you in the arse’ magic again…that ol ‘fleece you like I fleeced the Broncos’ stuff.

Damn I love this team.

Also they didn't over reach like in the Pete years, they quietly went and got someone, remember Wadldle was also out there. Teams were asking the moon for many players a 4th and a 5th for a instant contributor in two phases of the game, someone that can open up the field for everyone, someone that can play everywhere but on the line and TE. I will take it, he likes Kubiacks offense, signing him will be easier knowing a good thing doesn't last, also knowing getting a second chance on a good team I can be a bit more humble.

This is a fantastic signing for this team in this situation. Every defensive coordinator in the NFC just hurled their clipboard into a wall.

Of course, to appreciate why, you have to be able to take an objective look at Darnold's performance thus far, which I'll get to in a minute. But any concerns I have may well have been allayed now.

Shaheed might not even have showed his full potential yet, and there's perhaps no better place for him to find it than here. He's a burner who had his best year under Kubiak (and Derek Carr in a down year). He's had scrubs throwing to him ever since, on a star-starved offense. Darnold could turn him into Garrett Wilson. Anyone really not want JSN, Garrett Wilson, and Cooper Kupp as your receiver stable? (assuming this move isn't a tip on a lasting injury for Kupp)

Darnold's been tearing it up against bad/injured defenses and doing...enough the rest of the time:

Bad/injured (WAS, NO, TB, PIT, SF): 296 YPG, 12/4 TD/INT, 121.5 QBR, 76.8% comp
Good -------------- (ARI, JAX, HOU): 267 YPG, 4/1 TD/INT, 102.3 QBR, 61.1% comp

Not a huge dropoff, of course. You'd expect a dropoff against better defenses. He was making it work, and combined with rock-solid defense, it had been enough to get us to 6-2. But the comp rate was concerning. Then factor in that our run game isn't the best (we're sacrificing it schematically to get JSN open), that our WR depth isn't spectacular right now, and that you need both depth and the run game in January, and it had me reserved. Your offense running through one receiver is never a good situation. Remember, we're talking about the difference between a playoff team and a Super Bowl team. That's all I was interested in. It just seemed there was some lurking playoff defense that was going to eventually get to Darnold.

Whatever team that was going to be, though, their job just got a lot harder. Shaheed opens up everything, on an offense that was already at least workable against defenses like Houston. Defenders are going to face 60 minutes of impossible choices. We're not going to be facing the 2nd most stacked boxes anymore. Stretched fields mean more creative freedom, more free releases, more pass-catchers running wide open on crosses and in-breakers, more YAC, more room for RB's, more ideal situations for the offensive line, more production for our tight ends, more scoreboard pressure for our D to feast upon. We'll also be getting shorter fields thanks to his return abilities.

I see this move as John and Mike understanding the context of our offensive success and choosing not to buy into their own hype. They grabbed an opportunity to go from good to near-unstoppable, from eggs-in-one-basket to deeper-rostered, from pass-dependent to balanced, all of which is exactly what you want for the long haul. For the first time this season, I see Super Bowl potential.

And for the doubters - a 4th/5th next year are chump change for a Pro Bowl WR and returner. For THIS team, with THIS coaching staff, in THIS situation, this was a great move even if it is a rental. The Mike factor makes it likelier that John will find a way to keep the guy, as with IV and Big Cat. And if Shaheed delivers on his potential, he'll be worth what we pay, as with IV and Big Cat. That takes care of any leverage questions for me.

Don't fall for the mystery box when it's the alternative to a boat. This is great.

Christian Haynes, Bryce Cabeldue I think are still in the mix for depth,I do agree Bradford has shown he is down much more then up when it comes to evaluation, hoping Haynes comes back hungry.
So far, I like Cabeldue a lot. I thought even if they continued with Bradford that they could add another guard in the mix because there wasn't anything outside of Cabeldue for depth and I think one guy on the PS. But I also forgot about Haynes coming off IR. But that guy's gotta be the biggest question mark of all time... nobody knows nothing about him.

But this year is still night and day above our oline situation we had last season. Pray everybody stays healthy.

I'm kind of okay even if this ends up being just a rental. This move is about THIS year. We need another WR and we didn't give up high draft picks.

And we get to kick the tires and re-sign him if we want to.
I think this is as much a try-out for him as it is an addition for the Seahawks.

If he does well and helps us win playoff games, then we have the cap space to sign him to a nice REASONABLE long-term deal.
