This guy could be another Waldron or he could be the next Shanny. We just don't know. I was pretty fired up at the time when Waldron and Grubb were hired. This one I'm a little more "meh" about, so maybe that's a good thing. Nothing is going to change until we attack the O line hard with all available resources. Let's see how that goes first.

Does anyone have any insight into what this OC hire means for Geno? Do you think Geno will fit within Kubiak's system, or is this a sign that Geno's days are numbered? I haven’t seen much speculation about this elsewhere, so any serious insight would be greatly appreciated.
I think we won't know until no later than the draft. A lot of options the Seahawks can explore. Extend, trade, do nothing or even cut but that last one doesn't make any sense.

Yawn.

Stiflingly average hire.

Great in NO until defenses figured out his system. Then couldn't adjust.

We do love coordinators that can't make adjustments. He'll fit right in.

It did sound like that injuries did decimate most of the team by Week 5. Not saying they would've been 11-6 and in the playoffs, but losing Carr most of the year and a chunk of your starting Oline is gonna affect you regardless of how good of an OC you are.

Not very excited to watch one OC go from my home town team to my favorite team. But a potential benefit is not having to find something for 'the swiss army knife' to do. Seriously, watching the past few years of Brees, Winston, Carr screwing up many a good drives by wildcatting Hill or doing something equally stupid has been as painful as Seattle's OLine.

But hey, why not.

If Kubiak is the guy I'm led to believe, I'm gonna enjoy this year. Sounds as though he has, to some extent, been handed the keys to the offense. It's a new dawn for the offense. It's gonna be a lively ride.

The 2 finalists for HC in New Orleans are Mike McCarthy and Kellen Moore. Both would call their own offensive plays. Plus that will take 2 more weeks for a hire if it's Moore so maybe he doesn't want to wait around like Arthur Smith did last season
Being a finalist is not the point, why didn't he even interview? Why has he been with 4 teams in 4 years?

You have a point there!!! But my gosh, you and I will be called haters as our new OC just entered his honeymoon period on .NET
4 teams in 4 years could suggest a problem. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for next year but if the team ends 2025 in the bottom half of the league, I'll be reconsidering that support.

There was no home run hire this cycle, if there was, they'd be getting HC interviews. The only chance of getting a home run hire was, if they took a chance on someone who hasn't called plays before, and even then, a lot of fans would still be complaining that they did the same thing as last year with Grubb.

Kubiak is a high floor hire, and we're not sure how high or low his ceiling might be. With all the weapons Seattle has/will have on offense next season, and with, hopefully a better OL, Kubiak's offense, paired with Macdonald's defense, might just be a winning formula. And hopefully, his entire offense doesn't get put on IR like what happened in New Orleans.

I agree. I think Fraley was probably the low floor high ceiling option whereas as Kubiak is likely the opposite. Once Fraley was off the table they didn't have a lot of options left and this hire was the best alternative.

As I said before, I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt. I hope he's just what the Hawks need but I won't be shocked if he's not.

What makes you so sure Fraley even wanted to come here? I'm convinced he was never really an option, either on our end or his. I think Kubiak was their frontrunner and I believe he is what we need.

To the first question, I don't know if anyone can say for sure. Kubiak could have a particular guy in mind in the draft that he thinks he can mold and is going to come in trying to sell that, or he could love Sam Howell, but most likely the Geno situation is probably going to be determined by factors completely separate from this hire. (Geno's asking price/negotiating stance, what JS/Mike Mac think of the draft class, etc.)

As for would Geno fit in this system, the answer is yeah. Of the guys they were reportedly interested in, Kubiak's background is probably one of the better ones for Geno. The QBs he's most associated with are Kirk Cousins, Derek Carr, Brock Purdy, and Russ. Outside of Russ, those other 3 guys are much more similar to the type of QB Geno is.

He likes to use play action and designed roll outs to move the pocket, so he uses his QBs legs to move the pocket, but doesn't design a lot of QB rushes, so really fits how Geno likes to use his legs (though he's much more willing to scramble than either Cousins or Carr, which moving the pocket around can create more opportunities in that regard).

There are some potential red flags in his play calling that I've seen that could be worrisome, but none of it relates to how well Geno fits (or doesn't) in his system.

I remember when John Elway was injured and OUT for a Seahawks vs. Broncos game. It was like, "No Elway, we'll finally beat Denver, they are down to their backup QB!" Then the game started, and Gary Kubiak proceeded to shred the Hawks to the point I'd just as soon have had Elway in there.

I didn't really follow Gary Kubiak's coaching career, but he did coach the Broncos to a victory in SB50, the Cam Newton fumble game, and had lots of success in general. If son Klint picked up any of dad Gary's knowledge of football and winning tradition and coaching tree braintrust knowledge, I'm in.

So, here's hoping the apple falls close to the tree and Klint Kubiak works magic in Seattle.
