Does anyone have any insight into what this OC hire means for Geno? Do you think Geno will fit within Kubiak's system, or is this a sign that Geno's days are numbered? I haven’t seen much speculation about this elsewhere, so any serious insight would be greatly appreciated.
To the first question, I don't know if anyone can say for sure. Kubiak could have a particular guy in mind in the draft that he thinks he can mold and is going to come in trying to sell that, or he could love Sam Howell, but most likely the Geno situation is probably going to be determined by factors completely separate from this hire. (Geno's asking price/negotiating stance, what JS/Mike Mac think of the draft class, etc.)
As for would Geno fit in this system, the answer is yeah. Of the guys they were reportedly interested in, Kubiak's background is probably one of the better ones for Geno. The QBs he's most associated with are Kirk Cousins, Derek Carr, Brock Purdy, and Russ. Outside of Russ, those other 3 guys are much more similar to the type of QB Geno is.
He likes to use play action and designed roll outs to move the pocket, so he uses his QBs legs to move the pocket, but doesn't design a lot of QB rushes, so really fits how Geno likes to use his legs (though he's much more willing to scramble than either Cousins or Carr, which moving the pocket around can create more opportunities in that regard).
There are some potential red flags in his play calling that I've seen that could be worrisome, but none of it relates to how well Geno fits (or doesn't) in his system.
