I was mixed on whether it was the right move letting go of Pete, but I thought Macdonald was a good choice and he's proven that so far (in my book).

Letting go of Grubb after he was clearly over his head was a night and day difference from how Pete kept Hurtt on after he was clearly in over his head as DC.

The biggest thing with Grubb was no nfl experience. This hire fixes that. He had the saints offense playing out of this world the first few games of the season before they were destroyed by injuries.

We have no choice but to give anybody who is hired a chance but after that long wait and all the oddball interesting prospects….this is just a meh hire to me.

Hope the dude is great, does great things and becomes the next Ben Johnson. No matter who was hired, it all comes down to the OLine.

that was the risk with him and my biggest concern. The upside was you were getting a savant on the play calling side. With Kubiak you might get a better O line coach that wants to follow him. Dude is such an underwhelming hire though. Trust coach Mac but I'm not seeing the allure.

Agreed. I do not get the logic of 1. Hiring a guy who didnt seem to be drawing much interest. 2. Has been canned twice in the last 3 years. 3. Runs a now bordering on antiquated version of Shanny's O, behind a soft blocking scheme. And 4. Showed little last year in the way to a 5 win season after winning his first 2.

We will see where we are come week 7. It will be obvious by then if his offense has any meat to it.

And in an alternate universe, Udinski is our OC and we're pissed we went with another guy with no prior playcalling experience.

I can think of some:

1) Kubiak is a boring hire. I say that as a compliment. What you see is what you get. I think that appeals to Mac because he wants his coaches to do what they say they are going to do (shot at Grubb).

2) Kubiak probably is not on the verge of head coaching opportunities this season or next. It is likely he stays with the team for multiple years. Again, this appeals to Mac because he wants to build and not reinvent things year to year.

3) Kubiak's philosophy and small track record shows that he wants to run and has the ability to build a functional run game tied with play action. Kubiak has shown the ability to work with all sorts of QBs (Cousins, Purdy, Wilson, Carr, Rattler) and make them better.

4) Kubiak has been in the NFL for awhile. He has connections and people know him. He is more likely able to bring other coaches to Seattle to help build the offense. Who can Udinski call? He came from Matt Rhule's coaching staff initially. You want him to ring college coaches?

**I personally don't think it's a home run hire but what you see is what you get. You know what you're getting in Kubiak. You know his philosophy. You've seen it work in spurts if he has the parts. You didn't get that in Grubb nor did you get that in Waldron. Neither had any track record before being an NFL O.C.

Well, to this I'd say:

1.) Other team's interest shouldn't really matter if you are getting what you are looking for. If you think the Seahawks are trying to win now (and I think coming off a 10 win season where we were the best team to not make the playoffs, they should), Kubiak already knowing how to run an offense--with experience working with pocket passing QBs--could easily mean he is giving them what they are looking for.
2.) This is fair, though New Orleans canned everyone, wasn't specific to Kubiak.
3.) He moves the pocket and has a good run-to-pass ratio.
4.) Ok, but it's not exactly fair to put the entirety of their record on the OC. If you dropped our defense about 12 spots down the rankings and then had Sam Howell start for 6 games and Jaren Hall start for 1, are we honestly getting more than 6ish wins?

All I want from Kubiak is to know what intermediate routes are and if he figures out a run play that works for us, don't forget that play the very next week.

I would guess Peetz and Huff are outta here. After the disastrous year our line had, I can't see MM and Kubiak wanting anything to do with Huff. And Peetz is probably salty he was never under consideration for OC.

Per Saints sites the team gave him permission to talk to other teams as they are looking to hire an offensive head coach who would likely call plays. So Kubiak wasn’t fired. Just given an option to get a head start with a new head coach coming in. Per Saints fans.
