Grrr... 5:30AM drunken lurk mode going on here.

Really OP you have an avatar of Harvins butt humping the ground? Just that fact alone makes me seriously question any thing you have to say about Seattle's receivers...

Really you are saying Tate isn't worth 5 million? OK... well he was our #1 receiver in 2013. In 2012 he was less than 70 yards behind our #1 9 million dollar Sydney Rice...

Tate is easily worth 5 million. Whether losing him was a mistake is yet to be determined. If we don't repeat for another Superbowl it will be a very questionable decision. IF Harvin also get's injured (very likely) losing Tate will be THE ONLY MOVE that we can DIRECTLY point at and say, "dang losing Tate cost us the Super Bowl".

That's a very likely outcome... and I'm sick of hearing these people with avatars of Harvins butt humping turf talking trash about our #1 receiver in our Super Bowl Season.

There is no rhyme or reason why we keep Baldwin and let Tate go... our front office is simply in a tight bind right now and they just gotta drop some of our best players because our cap situation is completely F'ed.

Golden Tate is a good player but he's not irreplacable. Golden was non-existent during the playoffs. When the games really mattered it was Baldwin and Kearse that stepped up. Too bad Tate didn't stick around but they'll get someone to replace him. Good QBs will be fine with different WRs. Brees, Brady, and Manning all did fine with different WRs. Wilson will be ok too.

This. For everyone wanting Tate so badly and pissed we didnt sign him what did he do in the postseason to actually help win a SB. I would say not much. He only had 4 punt returns for hardly any yardage and like 60 yards. I dont care what Tate did during the season. Sure he helped us win a game here or there but when the games were win or go home he did literally nothing. It sucks he had to leave but I am sure glad we have an extra 6 million around to resign the more important key players like Wilson, Sherman, Thomas.

Tate's contributions easily made the difference between winning the division and not winning the division. 1 game either way, 49ers win the division. That catch, broken tackle, and TD in the Rams game was a game-changer.
So did Baldwin's contributions. Baldwin's amazing plays led to at least 2, maybe 3 wins.
The same statement could be made about several other players. Sherman, and that pick-6 vs. Houston, as an obvious example.
Wilson, of course.

Kearse made amazing plays at key times too. He'll pick up a lot of Tate's reps and production. I miss Tate, and I know he'll kick butt for Detroit, but the FO made the right call in keeping Baldwin over Tate.
By not paying Tate, we can pay at least 2 more guys who can make difference-making plays in 1 or more games. We just don't know who those guys will be, or even which side of the ball the plays will be made on.

Who knew, coming into the season, that Jerome Kearse would make the difference-making play that sent the Hawks to the Superb Owl?
Think about what Kearse had to do, all the Seattle receivers plus Wilson had to do on that one, season-changing play...
Kearse recognized the offsides jump by the 49ers and did the correct automatic (as did all the other receivers) changing his route to go deep, confounding the 49ers called defense. Wilson threw it up, Kearse caught it, Seahawks win. On freakin' 4th down. An UDFA practice squad player, at season start, making the biggest play of the season.

And that's not even talking about Malcolm Smith. Or KJ Wright shutting down Jimmy Graham. The list goes on and on.

Bottom line: For $5M, the Seattle FO can find and pay guys that more than replace Tate's 1 to 3 game-changing plays per season. We just don't know who they will be yet. That's part of the fun.

Oh yeah, and Tate and Baldwin are basically the same as far as drop rate. They both catch nearly every catchable ball thrown to them. Trying to use drop rate against Tate is BS. Dude catches nearly everything thrown to him. Happily, so does Baldwin. That one's a wash.
