Anyone else notice that our beloved Seahawks have been consistently blessed, since their birth, at the Wide Receiver position? At the same time, there are teams that just can't put a good WR corps together to save their asses *cough*Patriots*cough*. Don't believe me? I'll go down the list:
  • Steve Largent
  • Brian Blades
  • Paul Skansi
  • Tommy Kane
  • Ricky Proehl
  • Joey Galloway
  • Bobby Engram
  • Darrell Jackson
  • Golden Tate
  • Tyler Lockett
  • Jermaine Kearse
  • Doug Baldwin
  • DK Metcalf
  • JSN
When it comes to us drafting or trading for a receiver, I never have the angst as compared to other positions. Regardless of who's making the decisions, the Seahawks just seem to hit a lot more often than they miss at that position.

Nice post.

i would have loved to see what Derrick Mayes could have done if he'd been able to fulfill his potential. Dude had hands like glue, but never seemed to be 100% 'on'. Lost potential...

I'd say we have been equally as blessed at Safety.

You know, I hadn't considered our fortune at Safety but you're absolutely right. One HOF'er there and 2 more inbound.

Great post, some damn great ones over the years.
Darryl Turner was a hell of a WR, but his issue was drops. He'd make some great catches but then drop wide open touchdowns. Feast or Famine was our name for him. It was maddening. Dude was a flat-out burner too.

Koren Robinson had all the talent in the world. He just had too many demons going on.
Yeah, I almost included him just based on numbers and raw talent, but overall what a huge disappointment. Same goes for Deion Branch, who put up good numbers for the Hawks but we just gave up too much for him and didn't deliver based on value. Here's the top 25 receiving leaders for anyone interested:

Anyone else notice that our beloved Seahawks have been consistently blessed, since their birth, at the Wide Receiver position? At the same time, there are teams that just can't put a good WR corps together to save their asses *cough*Patriots*cough*. Don't believe me? I'll go down the list:

  • Bobby Engram
  • Darrell Jackson

  • Tyler Lockett
  • Jermaine Kearse
  • Doug Baldwin
  • DK Metcalf
  • JSN
When it comes to us drafting or trading for a receiver, I never have the angst as compared to other positions. Regardless of who's making the decisions, the Seahawks just seem to hit a lot more often than they miss at that position.
Joe Jurevicous
Nate Burleson
Sidney Rice

What about Deion Branch? He was goodish… just not for us

Damn right.

Good post, but I disagree with one point. Every NFL team has at least one stud WR on the roster. It's the easiest position to fill. If a proposed team like the Patriots, have a weak WR corps during a season, that means they are trying to develop somebody and they will most likely get help next season through FA.

One thing that the raw list doesn't show is how the best WRs we've had over the years have overlapped in time. They found a good one before the previous one retired, so there has been continuity in there where the work ethic and teamsmanship has been handed down since the beginning times. It's how we still see a bit of Largent in all of our better WRs over the years.

The love for Jake Bobo is inflated here….

I like Bobo too but Bobo has not made an impact this year, I’m sorry…..but that’s the truth.

The guy is seemingly a good dude but let’s not say he’s anything more than a 4th or 5th weapon on the Seahawks offense…
