Disagree. The Donkeys foolishly anointed Russell as their savior, a Peyton-lite. The Steelers know exactly what they're getting and are planning accordingly. Pickett was a bitch-ass baby and wouldn't have been real competition for Russ anyway. The Steelers and Tomlin understand they will run the "Russell Wilson Offense" and are OK with that. Hackett and the Broncos thought they could run the "Aaron Rogers Offense", that relies on timing and going through progressions quickly, with Russ. That's a no-go, as we saw. Sean Payton got better results by putting some restrictions on Mr. Limited and being realistic. The Steelers understand this and now Russell, Mr. Limited, is no longer delusional about LRC and being Mr. Unlimited.
I think Russell upgrades the Stealers by at least 2 wins per season over Pickett. So instead of 10-7, maybe 12-5. Maybe division champions, maybe even 1 seed if they get lucky like the Hawks in 2014. For Russell, it's a chance to establish himself as a HOF level QB and be relevant again. He'll be motivated. For the Steelers, a "good" QB who minimizes turnovers, AND, massive contract savings, at $1.2M per season, vs $40M/yr. With that extra $38M of cap, they can afford roughly 5 more quality FAs, including keeping their best players. So add 1-2 more wins on account of that. Pittsburgh now SEEMS to have most of the essential elements for a Seahawks 2013 or 2014 type season. The Ravens and Lamar (and that Ravens D, now minus MM) in the division would seem to be the Steelers toughest obstacle.
