Well clearly, as Russ sicced the union on Peyton and the Broncos for asking him to nullify his injury guarantee or be demoted from starter. Peyton sees sacks as an insult to his coaching and Russ was getting a league high of them, all of which could have triggered the next year paid for injury, which ownership would have blamed him for.
Payton correctly surmised that it was him or Russ in a survival situation. Whatever it took, Russ had to go, even if it meant paying him 37.5m to play anywhere else or not at all.
Then Russ goes to Steelers where there is no next-year guarantee. Hewins 6, loses 5, upon which the Me3 team leaks to sports media that the losses were due to the offensive coordinator.
Dabolls top move is to get rid of him before the deadline.

I thought that Bountygate quip was quite funny from Russ. Way to show emotion after all 
But then again I think Sean Payton made some low-grade, scumbag moves while at the Saints and has never demonstrated any sort of remorse, so I might be biased…
