Poor guy went to Safeco but couldn't get a picture with any pro ball players? Sad. :(

I feel like I did when I was a kid following Steve Largent. I just love any article or videos involving Russell Wilson. He is a cool customer, for sure. He just gets it.

98-MPH? I heard 75 on TV, 75 is pretty good in street clothes but 98-MPH is Randy Johnson territory. Either way, RW's arm strength shouldn't ever, ever be questioned.

It's easy to forget that Russell Wilson was a professional baseball player. :D

from Wikipedia:

On June 8, 2010, Wilson was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the fourth round (140th pick overall) of the 2010 MLB Draft.[47] That summer he played 32 games as a second baseman for the Tri-City Dust Devils, the Class A Short Season affiliate of the Rockies in the Northwest League. He finished the season with 2 home runs, 11 runs batted in (RBIs), and a .230 batting average.

They put 98 up on the screen for fun. They estimated his pitch at around 75-76 or so.

Still you know Russell was just itching to play, given he was drafted in college in 4th round as a second baseman. Glad he decided just to focus on football!

The pit
75mph without warming up with street clothes and no cleats and not trying to hurt your arm is impressive from a non-pitcher!

He warmed up in the tunnel. He was also wearing the team issued cleats. He wasn't going to take it easy. It looked to me like a 75 mph fastball for sure. He has good location. If he were throwing that in the major leagues, he'd strike guys out. That was the same ball Jamie Moyer threw for 20 years, but when guys like Felix throw that pitch it's called a change-up. :)

Russ was the closer at NC State. So he also has a pitching background. He played full games in the field, and then they'd do a double switch and move him in to pitch to close out games, which is pretty common in college ball. A lot of guys that are the strong armed players in the majors were part time pitchers and full time players at a position in high school/college. Then they assign them a position in the minors.

Russ was assigned to be a 2nd baseman because he is fast, has a good arm, good range, and is a good lead-off type hitter. He just didn't make enough contact to look like a long-term answer as a major league middle infielder. He likely would have ended up as a fourth outfielder in the minors the following year, and I'm guessing that didn't appeal to him much.
