Suh will he would get more than that if he's Franchised. If it was only 22.7 the Lions would probably just Tag him and hope to work out a long term deal. Look at all of the team's contracts. Their Stars make bank, and then there's everyone else.

I don't blame the players for wanting the maximum money possible while they can get it. What I have always taken issue with is them doing that while saying it isn't about the money.

Let's assume for the sake of argument that Suh wants out of Detroit for reasons that are not in fact about the money.

That leaves three options:

Sign elsewhere
Sign with Detroit
Retire

Let's explore:

If he wants out of Detroit, he's probably got some places in mind where he wants to go. He'll visit them and see who wants to pay him the most. Does this go against it not being about the money? No, because he leaves Detroit which was his non-monetary goal. The fact he took the best deal elsewhere is merely not being an idiot.

He's too young and valuable in the league to retire, so I think it's safe to rule that one out. However, it would definitely be a statement that not wanting to be n Detroit is definitely not about the money.

That leaves the unlikely scenario of staying in Detroit. This would only happen is Detroit threw money at him that would be too stupid for him to refuse. Even at this, I would suggest his reasons for wanting out of Detroit were not about the money, but not quite enough to be not about ridiculous amounts of money.

I still think that's fair for a guy who says it's not about the money - many of us would do things we wouldn't otherwise do if we had sufficient monetary incentive and it was not against laws or morals. Would you move to Nome, Alaska for 4 years for $30 million? I would. Point me to the parkas and polar-bear-repellent.

Absolutely I would, saying "it is all about the money" all the way there and back. Just saying don't treat the fans like they are stupid. A-rod said it wasn't about the money when he signed with Texas. If Suh signs somewhere like Jacksonville saying it isn't about the money that makes him a liar that thinks we are all stupid. If he signs in Jacksonville for maximum dollar and never says "it isn't about the money" I say good for him. If it is about the money, then he should get every cent he can.

Yeah, right on. Never understood the point in telling someone what they can and can't talk about. This thread is very obviously rosterbation city, and if someone doesn't want to partake in discussing the possibility then they can easily avoid the thread.

I don't think we're getting him, but it's fun offseason fodder. And, you never know. It's feasible that the dude really does want to play close to home AND win.

I apologize if I P.O. anyone. I should not have even posted my comment since this is a Seahawks forum and it is the off season so people are starved for anything Hawk related. I am hungry for information as well. So once again I am sorry.

Sorry chief, it's a pipe dream. If you listen to the pundits and people in the know, they place this at like 5% happening. If you look at the cap situation, it's even less likely.

It could happen, hell anything COULD happen, doesn't mean it should or will happen.

Where does listening to the pundits get us?

2012 Seahawks draft - one of the worst ever.

Russell Wilson is too short to play quarterback in this league; Matt Flynn is the future.

Pete Carroll will fail in the NFL - again.

I can go on and on and on.

None of these pundits know Ndamukong Suh personally. They literally have zero idea of what is going on in this man's head at this point.

And, I'm going to just go ahead and assume that you don't quite grasp the Seahawks' cap situation if you think this has a less than five percent chance of happening. If he wants to be here knowing that it must be a team friendly deal, it can get done. It might not be the usual way PC/JS operate, but things change. Super Bowl losses have a way of making you rethink things a bit, even if there's not much to rethink.

But it comes down to this, blaze. You, nor any other "pundit" in the land know the mind of Suh. Nor do you know the behind the scenes thinking of our head coach and front office.

It's unlikely, but to sit here and throw percentages on the likelihood makes you look silly. Don't be so influenced by talking heads.

YOU CANNOT PUT A PERCENTAGE ON A MAN'S MIND - especially a man like Ndamukong Suh, who had to leave the podium in Dallas because he was overcome with emotion at a playoff loss.

Get that? This man is a loose cannon in the field; and he's one of the most dominant players in history. We have no idea what he holds near and dear to him.

Let this thread take its hold, we'll all know much more in a month or so - but there's not a damn thing wrong with entertaining the idea that HE REALLY WANTS TO BE HERE AND WIN.

If Jacksonville is the only team that gives him a decent offer - entirely possible given his head - it's still better than Detroit without being bout the money. There are many reasons to get out of Detroit, most of which were covered brilliantly in the original RoboCop. That is one dead-ass town.

Yep. Today is the first day. Don't expect any for awhile though. The deadline for tagging is March 2nd. Expect the vast majority of tags to be applied on deadline day.

Lots of team's tag strategy will be set as draft boards get more finalized. And after expected cut downs become more well known.

I think it would be great to make the Lions worse. :stirthepot:

At this point why bother speculating.
Because it's fun. If you only want confirmed news, you should probably stick to .com.

Well, this and because that is all this time of year is about. Speculation about the draft, roster turn over, FA aquisitions and losses, and younger player development.

All the news is rumor at this point. So, we speculate and prognosticate. It's what makes the start of OTA's and TC so fun. If you don't like speculation, I suggest just tuning out until after the draft. Even the combine is speculation of numbers produced on a practice field.

We all thought the initial rumors about signing both Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril a couple of years ago were beyond belief, but two Super Bowl appearances later...

"We" also weren't having to consider signing Bennett and Avril and having to deal with signing Russell Wilson at the time.
The Lions would have to make some pretty deep cuts to even consider tagging Suh.

They really don't even have that option available.

Currently 14m under the cap. They'd have to cut:

Stephen Tulloch (3.2m savings, 2.6m dead)
Deandre Levy (3.5m, 1m)
Jason Jones (3.1m, .83m)
Riley Reiff (1.5m, 1m)
James Ihedigbo (1.6m, .375m)

To get under the 26m that the cap will cost. They already have a dead money hit of almost 14m. These cuts would balloon that to over 20 million in dead money.

That's not accounting for the fact you'd have to replace these players even with draft picks. So you'd need more. You'd have to restructure a couple of players just to afford the day 3 replacements for these 5.

Detroit has nobody on their roster otherwise that provides them savings of any measure. Almost all of their contracts would cost MORE to cut them as the dead money would exceed their cap relief.

Quite literally, Detroit would almost have to field less than 51 players. I'm not even sure that's legal. That team is in cap hell and then some right now. Any tag threats would have to be a bluff.

He is a classless jerk, but he'd be OUR classless jerk. We're already hated, might as well run with it.

Embrace being the bad guy my friend. Aside from Wilson, the outsider's view of this team is that it is made up almost entirely of classless jerks, so let's keep em mad and add one of the biggest and baddest that there is.

Suh to Seattle is a match made in the nightmares of old conventionalists.
