I saw on at least 2 occasions where they ran the RO and Russ tried to pull the ball out for a wide open run to the right but Lacy held on too tight and then was obliterated at the LOS. Could the lack of RO plays be attributed in part to the unfamiliarity with Lacy? Russ and MarShawn seemed to have an unspoken understanding regarding the RO. Anyone else see this?

I haven't had a chance to watch the DVR version of the game, but I can say that in the section of the stands where I was, there was a strong consensus that Russ needed to get a few runs under his belt to keep their defense honest. Finally happened in the 4th quarter and it's good that it did.

I wish I could remember which part of the game it was but the first time I saw it, he definitely tried to pull it back but Lacy held on. The 2nd time was not as obvious but still there I believe.

I'll watch for it later in the week when I get a chance to watch my recording of it. Hopefully someone else who has had time to review will chime in before that

Lacy played at Bama. No read option.

1st 4 years as a pro, green bay, no read option.

To assume he can pick it up in a short time frame is ludicrous. Both the RB and QB have to be on the same page with their reads for the read option to work.

Yes I saw that at least once, near the red zone, and they were lucky not to fumble.

The read only works well when it's a 50/50 balance of not knowing whether the QB's going to keep it or not, as we found out yesterday when Watson used it to great affect against us on multiple plays.

So if we're pinpointing as to why the read isn't working anymore, it's the fact that Russell gives it up 90% of the time, even when he could easily run for 5-6 yards or more if he kept it.

I get it, he's cautious and he's been told not to put himself at risk for getting bent in half by a DE or outside LB.

You also need your tackles to set the edge, and we all know how our tackles are at doing anything, they stink.

You don't need a 50/50 balance. No team is going to have a qb keep it 50% of the time in the NFL. 15% would be plenty. RW has kept it 0 times this year though.

It's a good point. The QB sticks the ball into the RB's gut, but the RB doesn't completely latch onto it at first. If Lacy is just snatching onto that football, it would ruin some of those runs.

Maybe Rawls is better at it ?
