Darnold is fine for now. We'll see how he does in the playoffs. I still have my doubts. Milroe may be the long term solution but if he's not progressing they need to keep looking. The fact that we didn't see more of Milroe as the season went on seems to speak volumes.

I'm a firm believer that we should always have a solid developmental prospect on the roster. Starter, Backup, Developmental, always. If Sam is here 10 more years, awesome. That means he's playing well. So develop Milroe, generate buzz around him, and trade him to a QB needy team in a couple of years. Then draft the next one and start again. I don't criticize those picks because they're not drafting for immediate need, they're investing in someone who will either play for you or generate more draft picks in a trade.

JS's mentor, Ron Wolf, did that constantly. He came up with players like Mark Brunell and Matt Hasslebeck. They got good return on those type of guys even if they didn't ever start for the Packers.

We can keep drafting QBs and we don't have to label any of them QBOTF.

So how much urgency should there be now to find the next signal caller? Does Sam have 3-4,5 years left here now? I think it is a great luxury to have Sam. Of course I’m curious what it would be like to watch this team play if we had an offense that was as electric as our defense, but maybe winning 100-0 all the time would get old….
What do you mean?

We have the "Great" Jalen Milroe waiting in the wings to take over in 2027! 🤪

I also think he is a realist. He knows he isn’t an “elite” guy - probably will not demand elite money.

Good money for sure. But not Josh Allen/lamar money.

It's 35 mill per for him at this moment, right?

Give him a 10 mill per raise (45 mil) in an extension down the road and it's still a bargain, imo.

I like the apparant progress Darno seems to have made but I still have questions.
One would be just how hard is it to find a guy with skills to throw and run but won't throw a boatload (20) interceptions and a bucket of fumbles?
Cutting down on the number of attempts seems like the most effective way we have found to get Darno's pick rate under control.
Having an effective running game helps this tremendously.

Is Sam's job unless he implodes badly in the playoffs.even if he does he will start again next year. Who else is out there that's better and can get 14 wins?
I'm going to say he doesn't implode badly.

This team is just too good to let him get to that point anyway.

I don't think some people are paying close attention to the fact that
running QBs are getting Neutered more and more as defenses have
learned how to counter them much better since Me3s wild sandlot days.
The last 2-3yrs, NFL offensive numbers have gone down a lot, the most
in over 20yrs.
Be careful what you wish for because if that running QB cannot pass very
well, there's a lot of variables to that, then they aren't worth too much in
the scheme of everything.
Less yards per pass, less first downs, more sacks, less TOP and more turnovers!
Sounds like the guy we had five years ago - Again!
I'll believe in Milroe when he shows something (anything) which he has never done
but turning the ball over and throwing like shit, hell he even runs slow vs what
pundits of his hyped up.
Let's be real, he's a lot bigger project than even AR is for Indy.
Can’t argue with most of these points.

I don’t think he’s a bigger project than AR when you consider where each were drafted.

But, I have heard MM comment on Milroe’s intelligence…his work ethic…all the physical tools are there.

College career? He went through a lot of change while QBing at Bama.

The biggest difference imo is that unlike AR, he’s not getting thrown into the fire. AR was handed off to the wolves..

It’s going to take something serious to take Sam’s spot though. I responded to this thread but QB is one position that is locked up for awhile imo.

You never know bro!!!

One thing for sure tho…we’re gtg at QB for now. I think we all have faith and trust in JS and MM now.

This will be a ‘no shit Sherlock’ statement but if Milroe is on the roster past his rookie contract, or extended, I’ll definitely expect him to be starting eventually. Seahawks or another team.

Here's my non-joking take :

Maybe Milroe develops to the point where he can at least be a reliable Backup to Sam? Just saying...

Milroe has a chance to be the QBOTF, the problem is, we have 2 guys sitting and watching Sam do his magic act. I do "have a feeling" about this kid though. It takes years sometimes, Sam is the perfect example, like our most hated QB ... at least mine...who ever played for the Packers, who is now dragging down the Stealers.

In JS I trust. He's got a pretty incredible record on bringing in the right guy at the right time and getting a good return when they're washed up.

I'm not sold on Darnold. He's not a game manager with his turnover problems. He's a gunslinger, like Favre. Our defense might win us a SB, but Darnold won't win SB MVP imo. I'd like us to find an actual franchise QB.

The turnover problems are exaggerated. He's middle of the pack for interceptions when not playing the Rams. Six of his 14 interceptions were while playing them.

This is why Sam is a luxury. He can hold it down. But also if we do pick a qb down the road I don’t see Sam being offended in fact it would probably only motivate him
