Here's my non-joking take :

Maybe Milroe develops to the point where he can at least be a reliable Backup to Sam? Just saying...
Is there such a thing as a reliable backup? I feel like never making it as a starter kinda rules out the reliable part

If Darnold and Locke are signed and happy Milroe can become the next Brunell or Hass, 1st round pick or marquee players or both in return. It's a good thing to have this problem, don't have to rush anyone.
More reason to constantly be developing QBs and not waiting till you need one to go find one

Sam is under contract until 2027. He'll be 30 and his cap hit will be $42M. He seems a Joe Flacco type which will be fine for KK/MM's system, but also keep in mind this is his first year so we might just see some growth from familiarity. He mentioned after the 49ers game his 'improvement' has been a function of "staying calm" and going through his progressions. Both should improve in year 2.

Milroe had a whole shopping list of things to work on last offseason, mostly feet and mechanics, so the next phase of his development is getting to a level of consistency where they feel comfortable letting Drew Lock walk.

By 2027, Milroe may be a Drake Maye type of player: 60-65% completion rate, mostly short/quick passes, but extends plays and gets first downs with his feet. Maye had 98 rushes for 409 yards and 35 1st down this year. Milroe is a more dynamic runner for sure, but he will need to get his reads and mechanics up to snuff before he will see the field.

tldr; we are fine for now and won't have to make any decisions at QB until 2028.

I never liked Locke. It's kinda a gimmick to have Locke. I dont beleive he could win one game in six let alone 14. If Milroe can't hold the clipboard without fumbling it then he should go on the practice squad. If that's the case let's get jacoby brissette as a capable backup; Locke is far from it.

Sam Darnold probowler and starter
Jacoby competant back up

Or

Sam Darnold Starter
Milroe back up

Milroe should be thrust in there. (If we dont get a winner) Take our lumps, develope the man. Locke is weak.

I get the overwhelming feeling that this thread is about Sam being a loser narrative.

This thread is not about Sam being a loser. It’s more about how we all feel about our qb situation moving forward. My position would be Sam is awesome and will only get better here. I’d be happy if he was our qb for awhile. But I would not stop the churn

-- I admit my standing disdain for most QBs, and I truly hope to be proved very wrong, but I still get some Dilfer vibes from Darnold. You just can't miss that first read on our first drive. Easy TD. 13 points against a weak defense is not great. Okay, let's say 19 points as Myers was up to his old habits again. All I am saying is I wouldn't push an upgrade at QB out of bed.

-- On the other side of it, I still can't tell if defenses just started to figure us out offensively, or if we really miss Horton as much as it seems. He was our legit deep threat. Our offense was humming before his injury. Shaheed's lack of production as WR2 is a problem. I really think we miss Horton.

I can see that. Except lock, l like lock but will he be here just as long as Sam? I guess we’re sitting pretty good. Sam’s probably on the edge of elite, if Geno was….. drew is probably a middle for a back up and Milroe is a pretty exciting prospect

Sam is a slightly better version of Geno. I personally can't trust him and I don't know what he can do to change my mind. I think Milroe is young and talented but I see him a Tim Tebow type. Can run but between the ears something is missing. That being said this is not the year to think about QB, Lock will be gone and Milroe will be the back up QB next year. Sam will be fine to have as a QB for the next few years but in 2 years I think we see if Milroe can do something.

Maybe, maybe Sam becomes tom Brady…

Hopefully in 2 years we'll already know what Milroe can be.

Really, I think a lot of the short term decisions depend on Darnold's progression. Certainly throw Milroe in there too. I'd say by the end of '26 season we'll know a lot more.

Lock is worlds better than Milroe at this point that's the problem. Dude is what he was at Bama, god awful.

After our second superbowl Sam signs a 289 million dollar extention. Locke stinks and should not at anytime, be allowed to start a game. (Unless we are tanking) At least if Milroe plays there is a point to it.

Because I'm smarter than everyone else, I conclude that Jalen won't ever cut it in the NFL based on his 4 snaps.
His dreadful tape in college is good enough. Sucking in college isn't a recipe for success in the NFL.

I concluded that well before those four snaps. He was complete ass at Bama and shouldn't have been drafted before the sixth round, at best.
