I also think he is a realist. He knows he isn’t an “elite” guy - probably will not demand elite money.

I like the apparant progress Darno seems to have made but I still have questions.
One would be just how hard is it to find a guy with skills to throw and run but won't throw a boatload (20) interceptions and a bucket of fumbles?
Cutting down on the number of attempts seems like the most effective way we have found to get Darno's pick rate under control.

JS has always been frank that the QB position needs additional resources every off season. I'd guess, this year, that probably means UDFA. JMilroe, DLocke, UDFA can be a reasonable competition to determine #2 and #3 roster spots with the hope there's a QBOTF as one. If not, hopefully some trade capital. Failing all that, maybe just a pre-season worth watching.

Remember, he added both Darnold and Milroe last year. If there's an opportunity, he's demonstrated he'll jump on it.

I suspect Macdonald and Schneider have a good idea by now if Milroe is a potential QBOTF or not. Nothing wrong with developing him over a few years. That's the advantage of a 3rd round pick, lower expectations on all sides.

Any QB is a potential QBOTF. Milroe is. Lock is. Darnold is. Currently Darnold is the best bet we have as what some would refer to as a QBOTF. He is just now hitting his professional maturity age at 28. No reason he can’t play another 10 years. Maybe we start worrying about the next franchise QB when the current one completely stinks up the place. QB is not a 2026 offseason priority or need.

I am happy with Sam. Last game….we can win like that. Efficient but nothing spectacular. No TDs but…no INTs or fumbles.

There’s always a ‘but’. But, if Sam’s agent goes cuckoo in year 3…I love the prospect of whom I believe they are preparing for when/if the time comes….thats Milroe.

He has the tools. He’s a workhorse. MM has eluded to that. He’s just a rookie. From the feedback MM has gave, he’s an intelligent rookie at that. Everyone already knows the physical tools he possesses.

Who knows? Sam may be our QB for the next decade.

If he isn’t, I trust our GM and incredible coach to make sure the team is always gtg.

Sometimes, you love a guy…perhaps he’s there in the later rounds. Maybe you take a shot.

My whole thing is…what Milroe has, can’t be taught. What he needs…can be taught.

That in itself gives me the warm fuzzy when it comes to his potential and development.

Sam is still young though. His play doesn’t warrant a huge, back-breaking contract (all considering, team friendly). He’s a great fit…not knocking him. But, I don’t see him commanding Burrow, Allen, Mahomes type money.

If that remains to be the case, he could be our QB for a long, long time…

I remember about 5(?)years ago me3 signed a new deal with Seattle for 30 mill/year and people were losing their shyte. A small handful of years later the Seahawks sign Darnold to essentially 30 mill/ year and now because of inflated contracts, it’s a good deal.
So Darnold might get Mahomes and Allen money but by then they will be in line for an even larger payday.

John clearly does. Or he wouldn't have spent a 3rd-round pick on him. And I think he's earned our patience on the idea of developing the guy.

We might find out in 2027 or 2028.

Inflation for sure. I just hope we’re never the team that suffers all over the field because we were forced to pay an outrageous amount for a QB.

There’s going to be some players that ‘get up there’ salary wise. JSN for sure.

But, I don’t want to see a situation like that of the Bengals. I can’t blame them for paying Burrow. Chase for that matter. But, holding onto a guy like Higgins (who is incredible too) while decimating their chances at having a quality defense, O-line, etc, can put a club in a bad spot.

Sam can win a Superbowl and if fortunate maybe 2, he was given a chance here to be the guy without looking over his shoulder for a hook, in two years regardless, you think he is going to sign cheaply? He would have earned everything and fought for it. I think he is the type that can play for about 5 to 6 more years, I would see if we can extend him now since he proved last year was not a fluke based on this years performance.

He needs to learn touch on his passes based on what I observed this Pre Season, some guys can others can't, that will be a big indicator for me, if he can't adjust he can't drop passes into NFL passing layers and windows.

I don't think some people are paying close attention to the fact that
running QBs are getting Neutered more and more as defenses have
learned how to counter them much better since Me3s wild sandlot days.
The last 2-3yrs, NFL offensive numbers have gone down a lot, the most
in over 20yrs.
Be careful what you wish for because if that running QB cannot pass very
well, there's a lot of variables to that, then they aren't worth too much in
the scheme of everything.
Less yards per pass, less first downs, more sacks, less TOP and more turnovers!
Sounds like the guy we had five years ago - Again!
I'll believe in Milroe when he shows something (anything) which he has never done
but turning the ball over and throwing like shit, hell he even runs slow vs what
pundits of his hyped up.
Let's be real, he's a lot bigger project than even AR is for Indy.

mmm pretty sure I was early but started to hedge my bets later when it sounded like JS really did like the kid. I will also point out I was super high on Riley Leonard and I think he's already showing signs of promise after only 3 games. My QB nose is as good they come but I don't always get it right. Dart seems likeable, charismatic and has a hot mom so I'm in.
