Even the best kickers average 80-85 percent on their field goal attempts, so it's never a sure thing. And in the swirling wind in Buffalo? Probably a lot less than that. You get the ball into a position for a 44 yard kick to tie the game? 80 percent means that one chance in 5 of failing.
