The NFL insists on shoving Peacock down our throats. Betting that we fans will pay the streaming fee to be able to watch some NFL games. It’s seeped into college as well.

It's a crappy new world. Just when you thought that streaming was going to be a good thing for us consumers, leave it to money grubbing corporate America to go AWOL on the idea and start squeezing money out of it from people who can afford it the least.

If the stupid American public would quit falling into the trap of fighting over stupid shyt that divides them and commonly concentrate on the crappy deal they are dealt by the greedy monied elite, we might actually make a better world.

End rant/

Other, for those north of the border. In the case of Toronto, the CTV Network picks up the Peacock feed and broadcasts over-the-air.

It isn't the NFL as much as it is the networks. NBC is the ones that is trying to steer us to their streaming service. Might as well get used to it as seems to be the coming trend. You can't fight city hall.

I don't see it as a big problem, at least not cost wise. Last year when Charter Spectrum had the same contract dispute with Disney as Direct TV is this year, it motivated me to cut the cord and go with an internet streaming service, my choice being Fubo. Last week, I increased my subscription level to include the Red Zone so I'm paying about $120/month, about $20 less for more services I got from Spectrum.

I'm getting more content, 1000 hours of DVR storage, and I can share it with two other family members. Divide what I'm paying by three to account for sharing my subscription and I'm paying way less.

I signed up for Peacock yesterday at $7.99/month plus tax so I can watch the game tonight and will cancel it at the end of the month unless there's something else I might want to watch. That's about the same cost as a cold draft of IPA at a sports bar.

F no to Peacocks***er. So much to despise about this, as outlined in my Friday Night NFL thread. The NFL found a little loophole, so get ready for another Friday night week 1 game next year too.

I'm surprised that I'm the Lone Ranger on this issue. I'm looking at it from a financial perspective, and I can't see where this diversification of games to streaming services is costing me any more money than when I had a single cable TV provider.

Additionally, with internet streaming, I don't have any extra equipment, no receiver, no satellite dish, etc, yet I still have all the features I had before and then some, like portability and subscription sharing. Plus, I don't have a contract and can cancel at any time. If I'm away for several months I can pause my subscription. I can change my service level at any time.

I'm not going to get all bent out of shape for having to pay 8 bucks to watch a football game that I might be very entertained by when my wife spends $60 for a God damned 28-pound sack of dog food.

Last year they had a black friday sale, $1.99 a month for a year. That was right before a Seahawks game was broadcast on Peacock, so I grabbed it. My wife enjoyed the Olympics, we get more NFL games, for the cheapest of any of the streaming services we have. We also subscribe to paramount+ for all the CBS content.

What I really want is a Fox streaming option, because that's where most of our games are in the Portland area at least, and we have a hard time pulling them in over the air.

We pay pretty close to what we used to pay for cable, for a bunch of streaming services. Consumers demanded ala carte channels, and by gum we got it. It doesn't entirely seem like a win to me.

The problem with the "I'll just pay the 10 bucks or whatever, than cancel" mindset it this: Do you know what % of people forget to cancel or tell themselves, "well, it is only 10 bucks a month and it looks like they have some other stuff I might watch." The next thing you know, your 6 months in and haven't watched one other damn thing. It's exactly what they want.

initially the idea of streaming was acceptable to compete with the cable companies and Dish companies, they and I say places like Disney are trying to monopolize this now. I won't pay for a single game and a month of BS to tell them to do it more often and make it mainstream.

If so, I'm gonna feel real stupid. :p

I just looked and I was able to start a TV episode. But I believe that sports require you to log in with your TV provider account. But I'll have to try it this Sunday.

I have NFL ticket if games are on other services I won’t watch. I pay enough for the Ticket. To compare sports I also have the MLB version of the NFL ticket I get all of the out of market games except for the one game per week that Apple TV does on Fridays. The MLB ticket goes for $150 per season which IMO is reasonable especially when you consider how many games they have. The one argument is the popularity of the NFL vs MLB

My answer wasn't available which was: I bought tickets to a movie and they offered me a year of Peacock for $20 when I was checking out.

Already have it, so no thought given to whether I'd get it for football only.

I don't have any issue with Peacock, per se, but the more streaming services I need to manage to watch a game, the worse the fan experience feels. It's not even a cost issue. It's friction. We went from simply flipping to a channel to now having to open an app, to open another app, to find the game. And god forbid you try to watch in multiple rooms simultaneously. The streams often don't sync. You require twice the bandwidth—which can degrade quality—and the quality is already variable if you live in a rural area without access to great high-speed internet.

I hate it.
