I wouldn't dismiss PFF's rankings so easily. There's a lot of very smart football people who follow them religiously. They are the gold standard for the type of work they do.

I certainly wouldn't, and don't, just dismiss them outright. However, they have a guy who has never even played a single snap in the NFL as the 26th best interior defensive lineman in the entire league. I'd say there's room for skepticism.

Hmmm Murphy ranked but has never taken a snap is all you have to see.

Good point. I'm not suggesting that we take their rankings as something carved in stone. Although they do try to make their analysis as objective as they can, it's still just an opinion.

PFF employs over 600 analysts that cover all corners of the country, which just by their sheer size would tend to screen out a potential bias. It's not like we can blow it off as we could with some talking head like Colin Cowherd.

One of the flaws in these sorts of lists is that they are heavily driven by coaching and scheme. For example, our two FA linebackers made the list presumably because they were effectively coached and used. If they had played here last year, there's no reason to think they'd have made it. There are great players all over the league (and who don't make rosters) that aren't in the right situation. If it all comes together like we hope, watch our same players (and more) shoot up these rankings.

People seem to agree to dismiss PFF based on their narrative going into an argument.

I will say, however, that some Hawks fans do need to temper their expectations. This will be a rough season for us. This team isn't nearly as talented as some want you to believe.

It's PFF's stats that are the gold standard, not any rankings or grades. Those can be partially subjective. Anyone could just take the player stats, compare and make a ranking themselves if inclined. But it's never a science, unknowns like what a players job was on a certain play, that's the part that muddies the waters.

I feel we have some players that are better, consistency-wise, than they were last year. Like others said, it was time for some new blood running the show. Just my 2 cents.
