Clowney has got to be laughing his balls off.

We easily have the weakest pressure off the edge in the league. Just won't cut it for long, Russ can't be completely 1,000% perfect to hide it forever.

You mean the clowney that has like.. .4 tackles and 3 qbhits with no sacks????????

You people don't understand football clearly

Cam Newton will run that is their game plan... thats how they play.. If you blitz heavily and push more than 4 you lose

Did you even watch the game honestly?

Bump. Lotta people here post and reply. Dont watch the game in entirety.

Oooh....ahhhhh. Too bad I've seen almost every snap of the Russell Wilson era.

And this is by far the weakest pass rush out of the front four I've ever seen. Almost in an nfl game period let alone us.

Even collinsworth noted the only POTENTIAL for pass rush was for us to use our DAMN SAFETY.

And if you knew football you'd know those stats mean nothing. The other teams could be game planning entirely around Clowney or at least throwing double teams and anything else to slow him down. Plus he's coming off injury, in a new environment.

Writing him off that way and not acknowledging him as a premiere player we obviously HAD to figure out how to retain is
embarrassingly ignorant. You do realize we just won by the skinniest skin of our teeth in about the second smallest margin of victory in team history and this subject i brought up is the sole reason besides injuries and the ejection?. Which guess what, next man up so those are irrelevant.
I'm not talking blitzes or CREATING pressure, just an interior lineman being within four feet of Cam on an obvious passing situation, for instance.

Dude he is not on our team. The question is...are you going to let it go or hope our dline improves play?

None of the guys on the street or going to save this dline. We will have to trade for someone, and I expect John and Pete to do so. The window is now. We aren’t winning a super bowl with a bottom 5 pass rush, might even be the worst. Right now our best chance of getting to the QB is with our safety. That is like saying our best rebounder is our point guard.

Should have just signed Clowney or went after Nguakwe or Everson Griffin.

Not sure who will be available. Bad teams will surface, and they will always be looking for draft capital.
Either that or switch to a 3-4 Defense and get everybody moving around. I still think Norton is the issue. He was terrible at Oakland as well. They fired his ass, and since he's a pete guy he's right back here again. I was pissed when they announced his ass as the DC. I said there goes our Defense. We will be bottom 5 or the worst Defense in the NFL as long as Norton is DC, and so far I have been right. I want Baltimore's defense scheme, they get after it over there.

Nah man. Some one needs to teach him to be a d coordinator and coach as titled. Otherwise he is a lb coach...in position to coach what he is less experienced in. Not his fault he was hired ahead. He can learn the title.

We basically are a 34 with the extra safety/nickel blair playing as the extra olb to help cover te and slots. Watch the game and see who is on the field. Irvin plays as de mostly but is listed as a lb.

I have no clue how to fix this, but the opposing QB has as much time as he needs every snap. No secondary can overcome that.

Agreed. But no dline can win without good coverage as well. Works two ways. No dline man in the league consistently beats one on ones...let alone double blocks other than aaron Donald, fletcher cox and chris jones. It's a bigger issue than just dline.

We stand at 831 yards in Passing Defense....Worst in the NFL by a long shot. This is unacceptable. Something has to change. There is no way in hell that FO doesn't look at stats. Someone has to be saying something to somebody. It's worst than last year. Falcons and Pats almost passed almost 1000 yards against us in 2 weeks. Whoever is saying we will finish 13-3, 14-2, 12-4 your outta your god damn mind. I got us at 9-7 this year, and missing the playoffs UNLESS this gets fixed.

Yes sir...right above is truth!!!

Although I dont agree with the overall standings outcome because our offense is lethal...if we dont change are d...wins will become questionable. That's why I preach foot on the gas and dont change mindset until the final whistle is blown. It's the only way to overcome mistakes, penalties and bad defense.
I love russ cooking, but we will look real dumb if russ is mvp this year and miss the playoffs because we cant adjust to how offenses beat our defense.

9‐7 missing the playoffs?

Our defense is way better this year...If Diggs didnt dq this would have been a different Game. I rather Cam beat us with his passing then running. Cam actually hot some decent throws tonight and Edelman has some diving catches.

We won, just relax.

We did win and I'm hella happy. However, how do you access cam beating us passing and Patriots barely ran the ball. I'm just spitballing here, but I'm pretty sure cam lead his team in rushing with just goal line attempts and a few scampers. Maybe Michaels bet him in yards, but the whole game they beat us just passing. That freaks me out thinking we would be a top pass defense team this year. Cam is no peyton, brees or brady, but looked like it tonight. We won, but it doesnt scare you that no matter how many points we put up...our defense is willing to let the opponent match. Idk man.

I can't relax. Our passing Defense is FUBAR. We are supposed to have a top flight secondary Russ can't play perfect every week. Defensive Line has to step up and creating pressure and havoc.

I'd like to see Shaquem Griffin promoted again - our pass rush lacks speed, and while he's a one-trick pony, his speed and slightly smaller size offers something that I think would improve our d-line.

He's obviously only capable on obvious passing downs, but since it looks like teams are happy to pass all over us (44 pass attempts from Newton, another 11 runs, only 14 rush attempts in total by RBs, similar stats from Matt Ryan with 54 pass attempts and only 19 rushing attempts), perhaps a passing down specialist is all we need.

There were times yesterday where I felt like Griffin's speed would definitely have put more pressure on Newton.

I watched the Dline literally stand straight up play after play and not even move the line of scrimmage. It's not fixable with the current roster. Maybe Robinson is a star and provides a spark? It's unlikely but I would love to see him get a chance. They could be a little more creative in an effort to generate pressure but I don't see this as a scheme issue, it's just a lack of talent.

They are going to do something before the trade deadline. All the other pieces are in place for a title run. I have no idea who or how, but that’s why they play John the big bucks.

Curious what piece's those are? The one strong suit was suppose to be the secondary. 500 yards in the air the last two games. Yikes. Admas looked good in week one but got beat all day yesterday by the aging Edleman. Front 4 might as well be cardboard statue's. LB's are nowhere near the level as years past. Wagner/Wright long in the tooth. I see a bottom 5 defense with no real options in sight to fix things.

They are 2-0. Nothing comical about that.

Maybe after giving up 500+ to Dak for the 3rd straight week and losing by 2 scores will change your tune. Probably not. Homers gonna Homer.

Teams are going to pass a lot when they are behind. If we are up by 20 and the Cowboys are throwing it a lot to try and catch up, I'll consider that a good thing. :)

This is the exact reason I was against the Adams trade, but fans were shouting Super Bowl after it went down.

I was as disappointed as anyone watching the lack of pressure on Newton. I have the following comments / observations

-- The fact that our d-line is unable to exert pressure game after game has got to be placed squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff. The reason I say this is that folks like Mayowa have been productive for other teams. I don't think it's a problem with personnel, though I do think we should have a NASCAR package when you know the other team is going to pass. Having Poona and Reed on the field just doesn't seem to make sense in those situations. I didn't see them apply pressure at all.

-- I was not originally a fan of the Adams trade. Now I am fully behind it. In fact I would say he is our only hope of rushing the passer right now, and clearly deep coverage is not his strong suit (though I would say he seems good in shallow zone coverage. We should keep that guy near the line of scrimmage and blitz him as often as possible.

-- how on earth we basically let one receiver (edelman) single-handedly beat us (except for a heroic goal line stand) is shockingly irresponsible. I have been underwhelmed by Ken Norton, to say the least. I don't think Edelman is THAT good, nor do I think Newton is as good as he appeared. However, these guys are professionals, and the more plays you let them make, the more confidence and rhythm they get. Then you start seeing amazing throws and amazing catches. Success begets success. We seem to do this over and over with even mediocre QB's (look at some of the past Cardinals games where we have made their sad QB's look great). We need someone fresh at D-coordinator. This D lacks the ability to put another team away. The Falcons game you could shrug off because their QB and Receivers are elite level. But even in that game the big issue was lack of pressure.

-- Pete Carroll needs a reality check. On the radio this morning he said the D-line is getting a bad rap because of a failure to wrap Newton up. For example on Mayowa's missed sack. Frankly, I think he's delusional. And don't get me wrong, I love Pete Carroll. But anyone can see that the pressure on Newton was non-existent in the 2nd half. I don't have a huge issue with missed sacks. Newton is a huge, strong guy. Anytime we are getting hands on him, I'm happy. HOWEVER, that dude sat back in the pocket all day and picked us apart in the 2nd half. Pete needs a reality check that the game film will happily provide if he review's this with the Defense.

-- Kudos to the Defense for stopping the run. Nice job, not an easy thing to do against the Pats. Give credit where credit is due. By the 2nd half, however, it was obvious that Belichick and McDaniels had decided they needed to win through the air, which they basically did.

-- The goal line stand was epic. Nice to see two guys that I consider underperformers (Hill and Collier) step up and make the play. Great job. Hope these two take that play as momentum and continue to up their game. If they do develop into everyday players, that would be terrific.
