I agree, Geno is not a QB you can build upon. I don't see how the Raiders get anything more than a rent-a-player. I am still hoping for Lockett to come back under more cap friendly terms. He is my modern day favorite player.

I may have to dabble in games again. I enjoy watching things progress and evolve. The defense did that last season. The offense did not. Our QB did not. Stagnant at best.

This just isn’t true. Geno wasn’t staying without an extension so his cap number would have decreased either way. Cap will likely be a wash for any qb over $30 million and 3+ years.

If we go with Howell and a draft pick we will have tremendous savings.

Lockett is gone. All of Pete’s holdovers don’t like playing for a team where they are held accountable.

I think Geno is more than capable of being a top 7-10 QB with an adequate line. He shredded some good teams while still having his traditional 2-3 boneheaded turnovers or turnover worthy plays a game. He also masked a ton of issues on the OL - people who wanted him gone do not AT ALL understand what he was able to do for the offense just by manipulating the worst pocket in the NFL. Cumulatively they really had a bottom 2-3 OL in the whole league and it's inexcusable how poorly assembled it has been for a decade. JS has no more excuses to fix it.

That said, he isn't the guy to win a SB. He torpedoed a few games on his own that would have likely put them in the playoffs. He's also at the end of his career and there's no point in aiming for a WC spot paying him top QB money while still needing to fill out a bunch of spots elsewhere. He fits perfectly for a transition piece in Vegas, in a familiar system, with a head coach who believes in him.

Sam Darnold is more or less a lateral move that will cost less and they get a draft pick. He also isn't the long term solution and I expect the offense to look worse if they don't figure the OL out. I have a feeling MM wants to lean heavily on the D and run game this year while they try to find a point guard quarterback who isn't asked to carry the team.

It’s kind of funny watching some people freak out but idk I was already at peace with Geno and DK moving on via trades ever since they made subtle hints of possible preference to the Raiders/Carroll and Chargers, respectively.

My potential departures included a very long list:

Geno, DK, Walker or Charbs, and Woolen as possible trade chips.

Lockett, Dre Jones, Nwosu, Noah Fant, Rayshawn Jenkins, Robertson-Harris and George Fant as probable cuts or less probable trade chips.

So I was already comfortable with noise and moving parts and for a transitional phase. However, I did kind of fantasize bigger returns for players than expected:

1. Metcalf and Noah Fant to the Chargers for #22 and Q. Johnston.

2. Carroll literally raiding the Seahawks for Smith, one of Walker/Charbs, Woolen and one of if not both of Nwosu and Jones with Seahawks getting back Tyree Wilson and Mayers. But I probably gave Geno much more credit for a better return in my mock scenarios.

Also, thought they’d restructure Roberson-Harris but not pursue Jarran Reed’s market instead just choose to bring up Murphy in his place. However it seems like they want Reed back and they potentially might still bring RHR back on a cheaper deal if his market is weak.

I also had the Seahawks re-signing E. Jones, Josh Jobe, and maybe Hankins as a hedge.

So all in all compared to my own projections which was marred in some off-season grandeur, Seahawks realistically are on par with I thought they’d be doing anyhow. So like I said I’m at peace with it.

Still hoping if DK still wants out that we can still net Johnston and at least a 2nd rounder from the Chargers. Although, depending what happens with the Chargers own free agency with Mack and Samuel, pairing DK with Fant as long as Seahawks can obtain another TE to replace him still seems feasible as Fant and Dissly can combine to make a strong, complementary duo but Nwosu also make sense for them if they lose Mack and Woolen likewise if they lose Samuel.

So we’ll see.

As for Geno, I’m both happy for him and happy the Seahawks moved on. The Raiders have an easier street to build and field an elite Oline if they choose to do so. And they are another Strong WR and RB away from having a complete offense assuming Lockett also joins them to be their slot. So, we’ll get to see if Geno can really succeed or not as I do like him. Also, saw a tweet that Geno has been lights out in stadiums that have a roof. So, weirdly unlike Russ, I’m going to be ecstatic if Geno succeeds and probably will adopt the Raiders as a secondary team.

Seahawks I’m just happy for the direction and for resources to kind of re-imagine the team to possibly get better in the trenches. I was content of trying to force a run with the incumbents but like others ive been wanting more substantial change and now that it’s happening I’m way more excited about the possibilities than I am reduced to doom and gloom narratives some people are approaching.

It’s been widely known that he wanted an extension last year but was told not until he had one year left. They were known to be actively discussing it. Add the fact that the team needed the cap space the extension provided and Geno feeing he was due a raise leaves room for two options. One is agreeing on an extension and two is him no longer being here one way or the other. Having him here without an extension wouldn’t have been good for either side. The best outcome of him staying is he stays a season disgruntled and nets us a comp pick in 2 years. This way we move forward and get the pick this year. Win/Win
