5 years seems a little long, but I won't complain if it's true. Wanna see the deets, though it doesn't matter much what I think. I don't worry much about the money side. That's Jerry's job.
hes 28

That is great news. I felt like, and imagine most others, that was priority #1. The M's would really be going backwards before even trying to build on last season without getting him back.

It also sends a message to the rest of the team and the rest of the league that they are going all in. Free agents know now that if you come to Seattle, the expectation is WS or bust. Who wouldn't want to be part of that?

Which is why I won't complain about a 5 year deal. Hell, that gives the team a good read on things going forward as they finish the offseason.
"5 years seems a little long"

Isn't that doing just that? :p haha only reason I commented his age hah

M's twitter is posting Canzone highlights even though he batted like .0000001 in the playoffs. LOLL

I can hardly believe how overmatched Canzone looked at the plate during the playoffs. It got to the point where I was thinking automatic out every time he came to bat.

Canzone had a decent regular season. He is virtually a rookie and that was his first playoff experience. I'm not ready to cut him right now.

Granted, there's a lot of trade speculation these days, but this one seems to make a lot of sense -- a trade with pitcher-needy Boston to get All Star Jarren Duran who excels in the outfield and can be productive at or near the top of the batting order. Here's the MSN link since SI's original link requires registering:

Mariners linked to Red Sox All-Star in blockbuster trade speculation

Yep. and Boem from the Phillies is a possibility. I like Suarez but he's a strikeout machine.

Yep. Winter meetings this week. I'd be more surprised if the M's didn't make some kind of a move than if they did. I'm still disappointed as hell to hear D talking about no real payroll increase. If not now, when? You don't want to spend foolishly, but if there's someone to be had that could add another dynamic contact hitter to our lineup and they're unwilling to bump up the payroll for it, that same old same old Mariner shyt.

Well, he did say that the salary budget would be based on the final number rather than the beginning number. That means, at least, that the significant salary taken on at the trade deadline for Naylz and Geno would still be part of next years's budget. After we 'lost' a couple of high salary guys to FA, he still has some money to work with.

Naylz was re-signed fairly quickly, but we still have some flexibility with what we were paying Polo and Geno for new hires. Hopefully, come the trade deadline, they will be equally as flexible as they were this past season and not be scared by somebody's high salary.

You know what I mean , though. If there's a real hitter available in trade that might supercharge our lineup but may cause a rise in payroll...EFFING GET HIM! If not now, then WHEN? Don't be cheap when you're on the verge, like off season 2022. Don't let ownership off the hook. That's what they want.

The momentum has NEVER been like this. You better strike while it's hot if you wanna keep this fanbase.

Bleah. Maybe Ms were just doing Ford a favor since he's a catcher but Raleigh isn't about to go anywhere anytime soon.

I like it, a lot. This is what they have to do. Make some tough choices with prospects to build this team to get over the hump.

Ferrer is on the verge, buying low. Under team control through '29. We needed that lefty. Good move. Let's do more.
